Eflin surrendered a solo homer to Trent Grisham in the first inning, then was tagged for two more solo shots by J.C. Escarra and Ben Rice in the second. Eflin’s struggled continued into the third, with three more runs scoring on four hits and a sacrifice fly. The 31-year-old right-hander was chased after three innings. He’ll take a bloated 5.46 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, and a 42/11 K/BB ratio across 61 innings into a start against the Rays in Baltimore on Friday.

Westburg was removed from Saturday’s game against the Yankees after jamming his finger, but the good news is that the initial imaging revealed no structural damage. The 26-year-old will have a chance to get back into the lineup in the coming days — assuming no setbacks — and should be considered day-to-day for now.

Not great. Westburg was lifted for a pinch-hitting Coby Mayo in the third inning of Saturday’s contest after drawing a walk in his lone plate appearance. He appeared to suffer the injury while sliding head-first into the second-base bag on a first-inning stolen base. The 26-year-old third baseman will presumably head for further evaluation and imaging to determine the severity of the issue. There should be an update on his status shortly.

Handley fortifies Baltimore’s catching situation while franchise cornerstone Adley Rutschman is on the injured list with an oblique strain. The unheralded 27-year-old backstop went 3-for-40 during a 15-game stint with the club earlier this season while Gary Sánchez was on the shelf. He’ll serve in a backup role behind Sánchez for the next few weeks.
