It’s encouraging that Neto was able to get in the box and take his swings at all on Saturday after being held out of the starting lineup for a second consecutive day due to a jammed shoulder. He’s tentatively expected to return to the Angels’ lineup on Saturday.

Adell now has 18 homers on the season, which is two short of his career-high total he posted in the 2024 season. The former top prospect has also registered a career-best .806 OPS over 74 games. And it’s nice to see him coming close — somewhat, anyway — to the bat that was so intriguing as a prep and in the minors. He’s flawed, but at the age of 26, it’s fair to say we haven’t seen the best of Adell just yet.

Ward was able to smack his 20th homer of the season with a two-run shot off Jake Irvin. Four of those homers have come in June, but he’s hit just .173 with a .630 OPS over his 85 at-bats during the month. Ward runs hot and cold as much as any player in the American League, and you just never know what you’re going to get from week-to-week.

Soriano was outstanding against the Astros on Saturday. He was the exact opposite of that Friday. The 26-year-old coughed up nine hits and two walks, and while he struck out four, he clearly wasn’t fooling the Washington offense. Amazingly, he and Nationals starter Jake Irvin combined to give up 16 earned runs, and neither gets a decision. Baseball. Soriano will try and find that previous form and lower his 3.99 ERA against Atlanta on Thursday.

The 27-year-old shortstop was struck in the ribs by a pitch during Friday night’s contest. While he was fortunate to have avoided any fractures, he’s still a bit sore on Saturday so the Astros will give him an extra night off to rest. Mauricio Dubon will start in his place at shortstop on Saturday and will bat ninth for the Astros against Cubs’ right-hander Colin Rea.

It sounds like the team plans to take a very cautious approach with their prized 22-year-old infielder and that he could wind up missing up to a month’s worth of action while recovering. Any fantasy managers that have been stashing him in redraft leagues in the hopes that he would be getting the call soon can safely cut bait.

The 25-year-old opened the season as the Tigers’ starting shortstop but since the return of Parker Meadows he has been phased out with Javier Baez drawing most of the starts at shortstop. Sweeney has slashed a disappointing .221/.280/.314 with just four homers, 23 RBI and a pair of stolen bases in 225 plate appearances. He’ll see if he can get himself back on track in an everyday role at the Triple-A level.
