Caldwell-Pope had a brutal series, scoring no more than eight points in any of the five games. The veteran wing shot 6-of-23 from beyond the arc, which isn’t good enough for a team that lacked consistent scorers beyond Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner. Signed last summer with the hope that he could be a veteran voice who could also provide 3-and-D value, Caldwell-Pope underwhelmed in his first season with the Magic. He finished the regular season ranked outside the top-150 in eight- and nine-cat formats in category leagues, but KCP was close to a top-100 option in points leagues. At best, he’ll be worthy of late-round consideration in 12-team leagues next fall.

The Magic have long needed an upgrade at the shooting guard position, and they’ve taken a significant swing at addressing the issue with Sunday’s reported trade. In 69 games this season, he averaged 19.2 points, 6.1 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 1.2 steals and 2.4 three-pointers, shooting 48.4 percent from the field and 89.4 percent from the foul line. Bane has been one of the best shooting guards in the NBA over the last three seasons, due to the ability to both knock down perimeter shots and defend his position. Given the state of the Eastern Conference, Orlando’s decision to make this move is understandable, as it significantly improves the starting lineup.

Wagner tore the ACL in his left knee just before Christmas, robbing the Magic of a player who was among the most productive reserves in the NBA at that time. Boasting an 18-12 record at the time of his injury, the Magic finished the regular season 41-41 and were eliminated by two-seed Boston in the first round of the playoffs. While Wagner did not provide specifics regarding his recovery process, he aims to be cleared in time for the start of next season. “That’s part of the rehab — you go day-by-day, you figure it out, but, of course, that’s what I’m working toward,” Wagner told the Orlando Sentinel when asked about his availability for the beginning of the 2025-26 season. “I’m pretty positive-minded toward that.” Wagner has a team option for next season and has expressed a desire to return to Orlando. Fantasy-wise, he’s been most impactful as a streamer when the Magic were without starting center Wendell Carter Jr.

Carter reached double digits in rebounds in four of the five games, recording two double-doubles. While he certainly wasn’t elite, the Magic center had a decent finish to his fourth full season with the franchise. Appearing in 68 regular-season games, Carter’s scoring output decreased, but he was more productive in rebounds, assists, steals and blocked shots. Unfortunately, the starting role has not made WCJ a significant fantasy asset, as he finished the season ranked outside the top-175 in category leagues and outside the top-150 in points leagues. With three guaranteed seasons remaining on his contract, Carter will likely go into training camp locked into the starting center role.

Memphis and Orlando have reportedly made a significant trade, with the former bidding farewell to a key member of its core. Anthony is one of the players the Grizzlies have received in exchange for Bane, adding another point guard to the mix. And a change of scenery may be what the doctor ordered for Anthony, as the 2024-25 campaign was the worst of his NBA career to date. In 67 appearances, the 2020 first-round pick averaged 9.4 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 0.7 steals and 1.1 three-pointers in 18.4 minutes. Even when the Magic were without Jalen Suggs, Anthony was not productive enough to merit being a consistent fantasy streamer. At best, he’ll back up Ja Morant in Memphis, and the Grizzlies also have Scotty Pippen Jr. under contract for the 2025-26 season.

After one season with the Magic, Caldwell-Pope is on the move. He’s been traded to the Grizzlies, but the veteran guard will likely be a starter in his new home. Caldwell-Pope was signed by the Magic last summer for his 3-and-D abilities, but he struggled with his shot. In 77 appearances, he shot 34.2 percent from three on 4.3 attempts per game. The percentage was Caldwell-Pope’s worst since 2015-16, when he shot 30.9 percent from three as a member of the Pistons. Playing alongside Ja Morant could result in cleaner looks for KCP if he’s inserted into the starting lineup, as Orlando lacked a consistent playmaker at the point. From a fantasy standpoint, he’ll be a late-round pick at best in standard leagues.

While Haliburton had a good night inside the arc in Game 4, making six of his eight attempts, he was 1-of-7 from deep. Add in five turnovers, and this performance was far from the norm for the Pacers’ point guard. Haliburton’s assist-to-turnover ratio has been an excellent indicator of how the games have gone. In Indiana’s two victories, he’s tallied 17 assists and seven turnovers. In the two defeats, 13 assists and 10 turnovers. Obviously, the Pacers need Haliburton to be at his best if they’re to win the franchise’s first NBA title. Game 5 is on Monday, with the series tied at two games apiece.
