NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports the Cowboys have hired former Bears HC Matt Eberflus as their defensive coordinator.

It checks the main boxes of the recent Jerry Jones administration: We know who he is (Eberflus coached Cowboys linebackers before becoming Indianapolis’ defensive coordinator) and he won’t be expensive. Eberflus’ zone-centric scheme will probably demand better cover linebackers than Eric Kendricks. Chicago’s defense came across as very static last season before Eberflus was fired. That doesn’t mean Eberflus runs a bad scheme, but it is going to take a major talent infusion for Dallas to play as well as Chicago did last season.
