Patrick Paul

Patrick Paul

MIAOT • #52

Dolphins selected Houston OT Patrick Paul with the No. 55 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Patrick Paul (6'7/331) was a three-star offensive tackle who signed with his hometown Houston Cougars as a recruit in 2019, according to 247Sports. He made 44 starts at LT during his time in Houston, earning all-conference honors his last three years and being voted team captain the last two. Physically speaking, Paul has the overextended dimensions that every NFL team covets. He has an eagle-like wingspan of over 86” while weighing in over 330 pounds with a 9.67 RAS, making Paul ideally suited to handle NFL Edge size and speed. Paul possesses a powerful punch that displaces defenders and stuns rushers, though it can be a bit clumsy and inaccurate when he is setting vertical against speed rushers. Paul has a fundamental “lose slowly” approach against the bull-rush. Look for him to develop more of a twist counter at the next level, as his frame and weight suggest he should be strong enough to overpower the average power rusher. Paul’s height does come with the disadvantage of leaving him high in his stance even on reps where he demonstrates good bend. Nevertheless, there is hope Paul will develop into a starting left tackle at the next level. He will get the chance to do so while learning from Terron Armstead, one of the best tackles in the game.
