This is the third of those four absences to come against a righty. The Cardinals are prioritizing the development of Nolan Gorman and Jordan Walker for now, leaving Burleson on the outside looking in. It also obviously hasn’t helped that Burleson is without a homer in 83 plate appearances this season.

Arenado was responsible for the Cardinals’ lone run of the contest when he lifted a run-scoring double off the left-field wall in the opening frame. The 34-year-old third baseman’s long-term future remains up in the air since it remains a realistic possibility he’s moved to a contender in the coming months. He’s off to a decent start this season, batting .255 with three homers, 13 RBI and one steal through 27 games.

Pallante was left on the hook for the loss during Monday’s series opener when he surrendered a solo homer to Jose Trevino and a go-ahead triple to Noelvi Marte a couple frames later. He finished with four strikeouts and only issued two walks. He’ll carry a respectable 4.13 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 20/12 K/BB ratio across 32 2/3 innings (six starts) into a home outing on Saturday against the red-hot Mets.

Ohtani’s steal was the seventh of the season. The three walks bring his season total to 18, and his on-base percentage is a strong .392 over the first 28 games of 2025. Ohtani has now reached at least three times in three consecutive games, but it’s worth noting he hasn’t gone deep since April 16.

Rockies general manager Bill Schmidt told reporters Bryant’s visit with orthopedic spine surgeon Dr. Robert Watkins will determine the next steps in his rehabilitation process. The 33-year-old was diagnosed earlier this month with lumbar degenerative disease and will have to manage the ongoing issue for the remainder of his playing career. There is no timetable for his return at the moment.
