The 28-year-old slugger opened the scoring in the ballgame with a 426-foot (108.5 mph EV) two-run shot off of Dustin May in the home half of the first inning. He then repeated the exercise in the third inning with a 416-foot (108.0 mph EV) two-run bomb that increased the Braves’ lead to 4-0. That would be all of the support that Bryce Elder and company would require. Riley finished the night 2-for-4 and is now hitting .292/.336/.511 with eight long balls and 24 RBI on the young season.

Santiago Espinal’s single leading off the eighth was the Reds’ only hit of the game. Still, it’s hard to say that Smith-Shawver was dominant. He finished the night with five strikeouts and four walks, and 10 of the 19 balls in play against him were hit hard. Obviously, the performance was just what the Braves needed, but Smith-Shawver is probably not a regular mixed-league starter right now. He can be used this weekend against the Pirates, though.

The second double was a 386-foot fly that would have been a homer in 13 ballparks. As is, Verdugo is still looking for his first homer as a member of the Braves. He’s hitting a fine .322/.385/.441, however.

Harris is striking out less than usual, and Statcast thinks he should have a significantly better line than his current .214/.232/.328, but there just hasn’t been a lot of hard contact in the air there. It seemed like he was getting it together in the second half of April, but now he’s 1-for-19 in his last five games. The one bit of good news for those rostering him is that he’s stealing more bases than usual; he’s 7-for-8 right now after going 10-for-16 in 110 games last year.

Muncy got the Dodgers on the board in the fourth inning with an RBI double off of Bryce Elder that plated Teoscar Hernandez from first base. He also drove in a run with a ground ball in the sixth inning that trimmed their deficit to two runs at 4-2. The 34-year-old slugger is slashing a disappointing .186/.311/.294 with just one home run and seven RBI on the season.

The triple on a grounder down the first-base line was the only extra-base hit either team had today. After a nice start, Smith had slumped the last couple of weeks, but he still seems locked into regular at-bats for the foreseeable future. He’s back up to .311/.386/.478 after this.

Hayes is now up to .254/.311/.311 on the season while hitting in the middle of the order for the Pirates almost every day. There has been no power to speak of, but he does continue to try and run ,which can help him create some fantasy value in deeper formats.
