    Brendan Donovan

Brendan Donovan went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and three runs scored on Friday against the Mets.

Donovan’s blast briefly tied the game before Francisco Lindor spoiled his clutch bomb. He wreaked havoc all night though, scoring three of the Cardinals’ four runs and driving in their other. Practically no one in the league has started their season as hot as Donovan has this season. He boasts a .982 OPS, has played all but one game, and already has three home runs. For reference, he didn’t hit his third home run last season until April 30th. He should be a fixture in all fantasy lineups while he’s hitting like this.

    Recap

Willson Contreras went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in a 6-1 win over the Nationals on Sunday.

After starting the season 4-for-43, Contreras has been on a roll. The month of May has also been kind to him, as he’s gone 12-for-34 (.353) with three home runs and 12 RBI in 10 games. It seems the draft price on him as a catcher who was going to play every day at first base will wind up being worth it in the end.

    Recap

Miles Mikolas allowed one run on four hits in 5 1/3 innings in a win over the Nationals on Sunday.

Mikolas struck out five and walked one, with the only damage of the day being a solo home run to Nate Lowe. Mikolas has a 4.35 ERA on the season and has, surprisingly, allowed three runs or fewer in seven of his eight starts this season. He’s not producing top-end fantasy value, but he’s been solid enough this season to be counted on in deeper formats. He’s firmly on the streaming radar next week against the Royals.

    Recap

Lars Nootbaar went 1-for-5 with a two-run double in the Cardinals’ 4-2 win over the Nationals on Saturday.

The Cardinals did all of their damage against the Nationals in the second inning on Saturday, brining in all four of their runs in the frame. Nootbaar drove in two on a double off Trevor Williams for his only hit in the game. The 27-year-old outfielder is having a solid season at the plate, slashing .243/.368/.401 with five homers, 25 runs scored, and four steals across 182 plate appearances.

    Recap

Dylan Moore went 1-for-3 and swatted a solo home run on Sunday, accounting for all of the Mariners’ offense in a loss to the Blue Jays.

The versatile 32-year-old victimized Blue Jays’ starter José Ureña for a 403-foot (104.3 mph EV) solo shot to lead off the third inning. That would be the only run that the Mariners could muster in the ballgame. Moore has been terrific when he has been on the field for the M’s this season, slashing a healthy .282/.330/.553 to go along with seven homers, 12 RBI and seven stolen bases (11 attempts). He’s worth a look in any and all mixed leagues where he may still be hanging around on the waiver wire.

Cubs signed RHP Tommy Romero to a minor league contract.

Romero was a highly-touted pitching prospect a couple years ago in the Rays’ system, but didn’t have any success at the highest level. The 27-year-old righty last appeared in the majors back in 2022 when he made four appearances (two starts) between the Rays and Nationals. He’s merely extra organizational starting pitching depth and a true reclamation project at this stage of his career.

Ketel Marte is not in the lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Dogers.

Arizona continues to give Marte regular rest after returning earlier this month from the injured list without a rehab assignment. The 31-year-old fantasy star blasted two homers during Friday’s loss to the Dodgers and has gone deep three times in his last three contests. It’ll be rookie Tim Tawa getting into the lineup at second base on Sunday afternoon.
