Lars Nootbaar went 1-for-5 with a two-run double in the Cardinals’ 4-2 win over the Nationals on Saturday.

The Cardinals did all of their damage against the Nationals in the second inning on Saturday, brining in all four of their runs in the frame. Nootbaar drove in two on a double off Trevor Williams for his only hit in the game. The 27-year-old outfielder is having a solid season at the plate, slashing .243/.368/.401 with five homers, 25 runs scored, and four steals across 182 plate appearances.

    Recap

Ryan Helsley tossed a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save against the Nationals on Saturday.

Helsley was summoned to out the game against the Nationals with a two-run lead. Things got dicey for the 30-year-old right-hander as he allowed a hit and walked two batters, all with two outs to load the bases. He got CJ Abrams to fly out to escape the jam and end the game with his seventh save.

    Recap

Andre Pallante allowed two runs with seven strikeouts over 7 1/3 innings in a win over the Nationals on Saturday.

Pallante was excellent on Saturday, holding the Nationals scoreless over the first seven innings. He would start the eighth giving up a base hit with one out before Dylan Crews took him deep for a two-run homer to finally put the Nationals on the board. That would end Pallante’s day with seven strikeouts. The 26-year-old right-hander will take a 4.36 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, and a 28/16 K/BB ratio across 43 1/3 innings into a start against the Royals in Kansas City on Friday.

    Iván Herrera

Iván Herrera is not in the lineup for Saturday’s showdown against the Nationals.

It seems like a planned day off for Herrera as the Cardinals try to avoid ramping up his workload too quickly. The 24-year-old slugging backstop went 1-for-4 with a pair of RBI on Friday at DH in his return to St. Louis’ lineup following a nearly five-week absence recovering from a bone bruise in his left knee. It’s a positive sign that he’s back, but fantasy managers should expect the club to avoid putting too much on his plate right out of the gate. It’ll be Alec Burleson at DH with Pedro Páges handling the catching duties on Saturday afternoon.

    Recap

Trevor Larnach hit a homer that accounted for both Twins runs in a 2-1 victory over the Giants on Saturday.

Larnach hit a 108.5 mph double off Logan Webb in the first, but the Twins couldn’t capitalize then. The two-run homer came in the third, and Minnesota’s pitching staff made a 2-1 lead hold up over the rest of the evening. Larnach is batting .232/.313/.380 with six homers and 20 RBI through 39 games. It’s not great for a guy who is spending a lot of time DHing, but it seems unlikely that the Twins will be able to do better.

    Jose Altuve

    Injury

Jose Altuve left Saturday’s game against the Reds in the third inning with right hamstring tightness.

He went 0-for-1 with a walk before leaving. It’s worth noting that Altuve’s exit comes in a game where Houston is trailing by five runs, so there’s at least a chance this is precautionary. He’ll likely undergo some testing before Sunday’s finale, but it seems likely that the 35-year-old will be out of that lineup for at least that game. Brendan Rodgers has taken over at second base.

    Injury

Ian Happ is not in the lineup Saturday due to oblique discomfort.

Cubs manager Craig Counsell told reporters that the benching is precautionary, so there’s a good chance this will only be a game or two absence for the 30-year-old. Seiya Suzuki will be the left fielder, and Pete Crow-Armstrong is leading off with Happ out.
