It seems like a planned day off for Herrera as the Cardinals try to avoid ramping up his workload too quickly. The 24-year-old slugging backstop went 1-for-4 with a pair of RBI on Friday at DH in his return to St. Louis’ lineup following a nearly five-week absence recovering from a bone bruise in his left knee. It’s a positive sign that he’s back, but fantasy managers should expect the club to avoid putting too much on his plate right out of the gate. It’ll be Alec Burleson at DH with Pedro Páges handling the catching duties on Saturday afternoon.

After starting the season 4-for-43, Contreras has been on a roll. The month of May has also been kind to him, as he’s gone 12-for-34 (.353) with three home runs and 12 RBI in 10 games. It seems the draft price on him as a catcher who was going to play every day at first base will wind up being worth it in the end.

Mikolas struck out five and walked one, with the only damage of the day being a solo home run to Nate Lowe. Mikolas has a 4.35 ERA on the season and has, surprisingly, allowed three runs or fewer in seven of his eight starts this season. He’s not producing top-end fantasy value, but he’s been solid enough this season to be counted on in deeper formats. He’s firmly on the streaming radar next week against the Royals.

The Cardinals did all of their damage against the Nationals in the second inning on Saturday, brining in all four of their runs in the frame. Nootbaar drove in two on a double off Trevor Williams for his only hit in the game. The 27-year-old outfielder is having a solid season at the plate, slashing .243/.368/.401 with five homers, 25 runs scored, and four steals across 182 plate appearances.

The 28-year-old backstop finally got the Snakes on the board with a run-scoring double off of Ben Casparius in the seventh inning, pulling them to within four runs at 5-1. That would be as close as they would get. On the season, he’s now slashing .205/.286/.341 with a homer and five RBI in his first 52 plate appearances.

The 27-year-old backstop hit a sacrifice fly off of Tyler Anderson in the fifth inning that tied the game at 2-2. He then plated a run with a sacrifice bunt during the O’s three-run uprising in the sixth inning. He’s just 1-for-9 (.111) since joining the Orioles at the end of April, but at least he now has a couple of RBI to his credit.

A nice send off for Bud Black, who was let go after the game. Goodman’s homer was his first since Apr. 28, and the triple was his first since 2023. The double, though, might have been the most interesting of his hits. His line drive on Wandy Peralta left the bat at 116.2 mph, a new career high for him by 1.5 mph. It seems like a good sign for his future. However, with six road games coming up, this isn’t the time to pick up Goodman in fantasy leagues.
