    Jose Altuve

    Jose Altuve

    HOU • LF • #

Jose Altuve left Saturday’s game against the Reds in the third inning with right hamstring tightness.

He went 0-for-1 with a walk before leaving. It’s worth noting that Altuve’s exit comes in a game where Houston is trailing by five runs, so there’s at least a chance this is precautionary. He’ll likely undergo some testing before Sunday’s finale, but it seems likely that the 35-year-old will be out of that lineup for at least that game. Brendan Rodgers has taken over at second base.

    More News About Houston Astros

    Lance McCullers Jr.

    HOU •

    Recap

Lance McCullers Jr. got just one out and was lit up for seven runs by the Reds on Saturday.

McCullers gave up three hits, including a homer, walked three and hit a batter during what turned out to be a 10-run first inning for the Reds. The Astros surely expected some inconsistency from McCullers after a more than two-year absence, and they’ll show some patience for now. McCullers’ stuff isn’t quite what it was, though, and he’ll need to be much sharper with it in order to succeed.

    Victor Caratini

    Recap

Victor Caratini went 3-for-5 and hit a two-run homer Saturday against the Reds.

Caratini deserves better than being the backup to a quality catcher in Yainer Diaz, but not enough teams realized it when he was a free agent two winters ago. The Astros used both guys tonight, with Diaz going 2-for-4 with two RBI as a DH. Caratini is batting .255/.356/.431 in 59 plate appearances in his limited role.

    Yordan Alvarez

    Injury

Astros manager Joe Espada told reporters that Yordan Alvarez (hand) is still not ready to swing the bat.

Espada did say that Alvarez is feeling better, but not well enough to swing the stick just yet. The slugger has been out of action with a muscle strain in his right hand, and it sounds likely that he won’t be back when he’s eligible to come off the IL in the middle of May. The 27-year-old is obviously someone fantasy managers have to stash until he returns to the Houston lineup.

    Trevor Larnach

    Recap

Trevor Larnach hit a homer that accounted for both Twins runs in a 2-1 victory over the Giants on Saturday.

Larnach hit a 108.5 mph double off Logan Webb in the first, but the Twins couldn’t capitalize then. The two-run homer came in the third, and Minnesota’s pitching staff made a 2-1 lead hold up over the rest of the evening. Larnach is batting .232/.313/.380 with six homers and 20 RBI through 39 games. It’s not great for a guy who is spending a lot of time DHing, but it seems unlikely that the Twins will be able to do better.

    Lars Nootbaar

    Recap

Lars Nootbaar went 1-for-5 with a two-run double in the Cardinals’ 4-2 win over the Nationals on Saturday.

The Cardinals did all of their damage against the Nationals in the second inning on Saturday, brining in all four of their runs in the frame. Nootbaar drove in two on a double off Trevor Williams for his only hit in the game. The 27-year-old outfielder is having a solid season at the plate, slashing .243/.368/.401 with five homers, 25 runs scored, and four steals across 182 plate appearances.

    Ian Happ

    Injury

Ian Happ is not in the lineup Saturday due to oblique discomfort.

Cubs manager Craig Counsell told reporters that the benching is precautionary, so there’s a good chance this will only be a game or two absence for the 30-year-old. Seiya Suzuki will be the left fielder, and Pete Crow-Armstrong is leading off with Happ out.
