    Byron Buxton

    Byron Buxton

    MIN • CF • #

Byron Buxton homered, doubled and drove in four runs on Tuesday night, leading the Twins in a 9-1 thrashing of the visiting Orioles.

The 31-year-old outfielder opened the scoring in the contest with an RBI double off of Cade Povich in the third inning. He then came around to score on a two-run knock by Ryan Jeffers. Buxton then broke the game open with a 371-foot (101.5 mph EV) three-run blast in the seventh inning that increased the Twins’ advantage to 8-1. He has been a force in the Twins’ lineup so far this season, slashing .267/.300/.519 with eight homers, 22 RBI and seven stolen bases.

    Recap

Trevor Larnach hit a homer that accounted for both Twins runs in a 2-1 victory over the Giants on Saturday.

Larnach hit a 108.5 mph double off Logan Webb in the first, but the Twins couldn’t capitalize then. The two-run homer came in the third, and Minnesota’s pitching staff made a 2-1 lead hold up over the rest of the evening. Larnach is batting .232/.313/.380 with six homers and 20 RBI through 39 games. It’s not great for a guy who is spending a lot of time DHing, but it seems unlikely that the Twins will be able to do better.

    Joe Ryan

    Recap

Joe Ryan pitched six innings of one-run ball and struck out seven in a victory Saturday.

He gave up only two hits, though one was a Heliot Ramos homer. The Twins probably could have stuck with Ryan longer tonight, as he threw only 76 pitches, 55 of which were fastballs. However, he was coming off a brief illness that caused him to be pushed back in the rotation. Ryan has allowed a total of two runs in his last three starts, and he looks like a legitimate top-10 fantasy SP at the moment. He’ll face the Brewers next.

    Recap

Jhoan Duran turned in a scoreless ninth Saturday for a save against the Giants.

After missing out on a save chance Friday, Duran was available tonight to record his third save in four days. He and Griffin Jax will likely be back down tomorrow, so Cole Sands might wind up with a save chance then.

    Injury

Oneil Cruz was removed from Saturday’s game against Atlanta with lower back tightness.

The Pirates are calling Cruz day-to-day after he left late in the contest. It seems likely that the 26-year-old will get the series finale off Sunday, but the hope is that he can return to playing center for the Pirates in the early portion of next week.

JJ Bleday is not in the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Yankees.

It appears to be a routine off day for Bleday, who hit a bit of a rough patch at the dish recently, batting .212 (11-for-52) with two homers over his last 15 games. The 27-year-old is the odd man out on Saturday afternoon with Brent Rooker drawing a start in right field, Tyler Soderstrom in left field and rookie Nick Kurtz at the cold corner.

    Angel Martínez

    Recap

Angel Martínez hit his first homer and doubled Friday versus the Phillies.

The homer was a two-run shot off Aaron Nola. Martínez is batting .325/.337/.446 with three steals in 25 games. He’ll probably remain pretty strong in terms of average, but not quite .325 strong, and the power isn’t really there to make him a big factor in fantasy leagues. Stlll, he seems like an upgrade over Lane Thomas for the Guardians.
