This was the ‘TJ Friedl’ show as he opened the game by homering off a hanging curveball from Grant Holmes in a game the Reds would never trail. He took Holmes deep again in his next at-bat and this was his first multi-home run game since August 14th of last season. While his tools will never jump off the page, he’s still hitting lead-off nearly every day for the Reds.

Pagán did well here to put yesterday’s blown save behind him. He worked around a two-out single from Michael Harris to set the Braves down with ease and is running a 31.7% strikeout rate, which would be his highest since way back in 2019. The team clearly still trusts him to be their guy in the ninth inning.

Reds manager Terry Francona told reporters that Greene felt a grab, not a pop, while warming up for the fourth inning of Wednesday’s start against the Braves, which led to his immediate removal out of an abundance of caution. The 25-year-old fantasy ace will undergo further evaluation and imaging to determine the severity of the issue, but it sounds like the Reds don’t believe it’s too serious. There’s an outside chance he’ll make his next start on Tuesday against the White Sox. There should be a definitive update on his status at some point in the coming days.

Soler also singled and walked, but the big blow was obviously the bases-clearing double that turned a 4-2 deficit into a 5-4 lead off Jeff Hoffman. That gives the veteran slugger eight doubles on the season to go with 16 RBI. Soler has not been spectacular with the bat over the first 35 games of the season and had just two hits coming into May before Wednesday’s game, but the 33-year-old is always capable of fireworks, even if they are often followed by long stretches of disappointment.

Not only was Abreu productive, but he was also clutch. His first long ball tied this game at two. Then, his run-scoring double tied it at three and nearly gave his Red Sox the lead before Kristian Campbell was thrown out at home. His eighth inning home run was less dramatic, just adding insurance to the lead. A funny note though, this was the third multi-homer game of Abreu’s career and all three have come against the Rangers. Nevertheless, his strong start has blended nicely into a tremendous season and the Red Sox would be hard-pressed to take his .980 OPS out of the lineup any time soon.

Orioles manager Brandon Hyde told reporters he’s hopeful O’Neill will return for this weekend’s series against the Angels out in Los Angeles. The 29-year-old slugging outfielder, who has been out since late April with neck inflammation, went 2-for-6 in a pair of rehab contests.
