This was the ‘TJ Friedl’ show as he opened the game by homering off a hanging curveball from Grant Holmes in a game the Reds would never trail. He took Holmes deep again in his next at-bat and this was his first multi-home run game since August 14 of last season. While his tools will never jump off the page, he’s still hitting lead-off nearly every day for the Reds.

Hinds gave the Reds a 4-2 lead with his two-run homer in the ninth off Raisel Iglesias. It’s the first homer since being promoted back to Cincinnati on Wednesday, and while his other skills are a question mark, there’s no denying he offers pop in his bat while playing in a hitter-friendly home park.

Ashcraft was tasked with holding a two-run lead in the ninth, and the 27-year-old wasn’t up to said task. He allowed a sac fly and then an RBI single to blow his chance for his first save of 2025. The Reds will likely turn back to Emilio Pagan in the next chance, as Pagan was unavailable after working the last two contests.

Lodolo allowed five hits and didn’t issue a walk. He gave up sac fly in the first and a run-scoring triple to Michael Harris II, but outside of that it was smooth sailing for the southpaw. It’s a nice bounceback from Saturday’s struggles against the Nats (5 1/3 innings, 10 hits, six earned runs), and more in line with how he’s pitched for the majority of the 2025 campaign. Lodolo has a great chance of lowering his already-solid 3.23 ERA against the White Sox next week.

Devers vented his frustration with general manager Craig Breslow, telling reporters including Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic that he doesn’t understand why the team would want him to change positions again after they already asked him to do so during spring training. Perhaps he’s unaware that first baseman Triston Casas suffered a brutal season-ending knee injury and they don’t have any viable replacements. Regardless, this isn’t the type of comment that’s going to gain him any respect or admiration in the clubhouse or the front office.

Devers’ steal was his first of the year., and the homer off Jacob Latz was his first versus a left-hander. He now has six homers and 25 RBI in 39 games, and he leads the AL with 29 walks.

Espada said this was an issue that Yordan has dealt with before, and it’s a good thing that the Astros “jumped on the issue early. Let it heal, time off, and get the real Yordan soon.” Yordan is eligible to be activated off the injured list on Monday, but it seems like later in the week may be a more realistic timeline.
