If you’re Adell, getting a breather against reigning American League Cy Young award winner Tarik Skubal isn’t the worst thing that could happen. Kyren Paris will start in his place in center field and bat eighth for the Halos on Friday evening.

The 24-year-old right-hander also issued a pair of walks while recording only one strikeout on the afternoon. After a scoreless first inning, the Tigers broke through for three runs against him in the second inning, including a two-run double by Kerry Carpenter. He then served up a two-run blast to Colt Keith in the third before finishing his day with a pair of scoreless innings. Kochanowicz got seven whiffs on 77 pitches on the day, posting a CSW of 19 percent. Now 1-5 on the season, he’ll bring a miserable 5.79 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and a 20/14 K/BB ratio (37 1/3 innings) into Saturday’s matchup against the Orioles.

Schanuel was due for a game like this, as he was hitless in his first two games of May and had seen his average plummet from to .282 to .231 over the last two weeks. Schanuel has long-term upside at the first base position, but there are certainly better options at the position for 2025. Likely 2026, too.

Harris is striking out less than usual, and Statcast thinks he should have a significantly better line than his current .214/.232/.328, but there just hasn’t been a lot of hard contact in the air there. It seemed like he was getting it together in the second half of April, but now he’s 1-for-19 in his last five games. The one bit of good news for those rostering him is that he’s stealing more bases than usual; he’s 7-for-8 right now after going 10-for-16 in 110 games last year.

The 26-year-old outfielder can continue to play for the Rangers while on waivers. If he’s claimed, the team that claims him would have to assume the remainder of his $4.75 million salary for the 2025 season, which would be roughly $3.9 million. If he goes unclaimed, he would have the option to forfeit his remaining salary and elect free agency, or report to Triple-A Round Rock. Taveras has slashed just .241/.259/.342 in 79 at-bats for the Rangers this season with one home run, eight RBI and six stolen bases.
