Walker did have one good swing today, and it would have gone for a homer if Brandon Nimmo hadn’t stolen it away. Still, Walker is sitting at .227/.284/.320 for the year, and he’s struck out 26 times in 81 plate appearances. That 32 percent strikeout rate is up from 28 percent in 51 games last year and 22 percent in 2023. If he doesn’t improve quickly, he might be in line for an early demotion to Triple-A for a third straight year. The potential homer really might have helped.

After starting the season 4-for-43, Contreras has been on a roll. The month of May has also been kind to him, as he’s gone 12-for-34 (.353) with three home runs and 12 RBI in 10 games. It seems the draft price on him as a catcher who was going to play every day at first base will wind up being worth it in the end.

Mikolas struck out five and walked one, with the only damage of the day being a solo home run to Nate Lowe. Mikolas has a 4.35 ERA on the season and has, surprisingly, allowed three runs or fewer in seven of his eight starts this season. He’s not producing top-end fantasy value, but he’s been solid enough this season to be counted on in deeper formats. He’s firmly on the streaming radar next week against the Royals.
