Cruz didn’t get a hit, but he was able to draw a pair of walks and put his incredible speed to work. The 26-year-old has swiped 14 bags over 32 games, putting him on pace for right around 70. That’ll work, and so will his .883 OPS.

Keller pitched well over the first three innings, but things fell apart in his next two frames. He allowed two runs in the fourth including a solo blast from Gavin Sheets, and three more scored in the fifth in his final frame. The 29-year-old walked one and struck out three in a nondescript — but ultimately ineffective — outing against a tough lineup. Keller will try and rebound and lower his 4.38 ERA against the Cardinals next week.

McCutchen got the big hit in this one when he squeaked a ground ball up the middle that Dansby Swanson inadvertently kicked into shallow center field. That mishap allowed both Bryan Reynolds and Isiah Kiner-Falefa to score and give the Pirates a late lead that they wouldn’t relinquish. While McCutchen began the season in more of a part-time role, he’s started in 12 of Pittsburgh’s last 13 games and has slugged his way to an .826 OPS overall.

Bednar has looked like his old self lately. His fastball got up to 99 mph and he was able to command both his splitter and curveball. He’s allowed just one run and five hits to go with eight strikeouts over his last six innings since being recalled from Triple-A. It seems like the Pirates have fully reasserted him as their closer and he’s running with the job.

It’s the fifth homer of the season for J-Rod, and it’s worth pointing out that the 24-year-old didn’t hit his fifth homer last year until June 5. The .216 average leaves a lot to be desired, but fantasy managers can be encouraged that the power and speed combination is showing up more than it did in 2024. It’s still ok to expect more from a talent like his.

Crow-Armstrong homered in the second inning, and added another off Joel Payamps in the eighth inning. The 23-year-old has impressed with the bat in 2025 as well as the glove, and fantasy managers have to be pleased as punch with what he’s provided in the early portion of the season. Don’t be surprised if there are ups and downs for the man they call PCA, but the better should outweigh the bitter.

The Marlins could hold Bleday in check on Friday night. He came around to score the Athletics first run after drawing a walk in the second inning then homered and doubled in his next two at-bats. His slash line is slowly creeping up after a disastrous first few weeks of the season and he will likely settle in once again as an underrated compiler who plays every day in a good lineup.
