The 28-year-old infielder had been designated for assignment earlier in the week, but he passed through waivers unclaimed and has accepted an outright assignment to Triple-A. Rivera slashed a meager .232/.303/.275 with zero homers, three RBI and a 12/6 K/BB ratio in his 76 plate appearances with the O’s.

Cowser was held out of Baltimore’s lineup on Friday evening following a collision with the center-field wall during Thursday’s game against the Tigers. The fact that he isn’t dealing with anything specific, based on comments from Orioles interim manager Tony Mansolino, is an encouraging sign. He should be available off the bench this weekend and seems likely to avoid a trip to the injured list.

Morton has excelled in three out of four turns since rejoining the Orioles rotation, and while that doesn’t make him a great play in mixed leagues, it’s certainly a fun story. With tonight’s performance, he joined Steve Carlton, Roger Clemens, Rich Hill, Randy Johnson, Johnny Niggeling, Gaylord Perry, Nolan Ryan and Dazzy Vance as the only pitchers to have multiple 10-strikeout games after turning 41. Morton is slated to face the Rays next time out.

It looks to be just a routine day off for the 25-year-old first baseman who has slashed an impressive .310/.344/.655 with three homers and seven RBI in seven games since returning from the injured list. Spencer Steer will start in his place at first base and will bat sixth for the Reds against Jack Flaherty and the Tigers on Saturday.

The 25-year-old slugger has cooled considerably over the past few weeks, slashing .209/.320/.372 with two homers, five RBI and a 12/6 K/BB ratio over 50 plate appearances in his last 12 games. Colt Keith will start in his place at first base and will bat sixth for the Tigers against Reds’ right-hander Brady Singer on Saturday afternoon at Comerica Park.

Tellez got the Mariners on the board with a solo homer off Gavin Williams in the fourth inning. It’s the 11th roundtripper of the season for the veteran first baseman, and his double was just his fifth. Tellez certainly has the raw power to hit the ball over the fence, but it’s hard to trust him as a one-tool player playing in a home park that suppresses that tool.
