Jake Fraley
CIN • RF • #
Reds placed OF Jake Fraley on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to May 7, with left calf tenderness.
Fraley heads to the shelf for some extra rest and recovery time following a four-game absence due to a lingering calf issue. It doesn’t sound like he’s facing an extended absence, but the Reds can’t really afford to continue playing with a shortened bench. It’ll be veteran Connor Joe, who was acquired on Friday in a trade with the Padres, taking his spot on Cincinnati’s active roster.

Nick Martinez

Nick Martinez allowed 10 hits and three runs with no walks and five strikeouts over six innings in a loss to the Astros on Friday.
Martinez did well to scatter the many, many hits the Astros had against him and not let this game get out of hand. It benefits a right-handed pitcher like Martinez who relies so heavily on his slider and sinker to face this Houston lineup that doesn’t have a single left-handed batter and that may have been a key reason he was able to avoid disaster. His next start is scheduled to come at home against the lowly White Sox.
Tyler Callihan

Reds transferred INF/OF Tyler Callihan to the 60-day injured list.
Nothing has changed in the prognosis for the 24-year-old infielder — who is out for the next six-to-eight weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a left forearm fracture — this was done to free up a spot on the team’s 40-man roster for the addition of Connor Joe on Friday. Callihan sustained his injury as he crashed into the left field wall during Monday’s game against the Braves.
Connor Joe

Reds acquired 1B/OF Connor Joe from the Padres for RHP Andrew Moore and cash considerations.
The 32-year-old has only seen nine at-bats with the Padres this season, going 0-for-9 with six strikeouts. He has been a bit better at Triple-A El Paso, slashing .267/.405/.350 with zero homers, four RBI and four swipes in 74 plate appearances. He’ll give the Reds another versatile option for bench depth.

Kerry Carpenter is back in the leadoff spot for Saturday’s contest against the Rangers.
Carpenter finds himself back in the leadoff spot after Justyn-Henry Malloy got the call to face lefties Patrick Corbin and Kyle Freeland in their previous two contests. The 27-year-old slugging corner outfielder is hitting .310 (9-for-29) with one homer and six RBI over his last seven contests. He’ll continue to do damage against right-handed pitching while taking a seat against tougher southpaws.

Jhonkensy Noel is in right field and batting sixth on Saturday against the Phillies.
It’s a rare opportunity for Noel, who is batting .169 (12-for-71) with two homers and nine RBI across 30 games this season. The 23-year-old boasts immense raw power, but there aren’t a ton of avenues for him to get into Cleveland’s lineup on a regular basis.

Nathan Lukes

Nathan Lukes hit a two-run homer in a win Friday over the Mariners for the Blue Jays.
Lukes took Luis Castillo deep to give the Jays a 5-0 lead. It’s the second roundtripper of the campaign for the 30-year-old outfielder, and he’s now driven in 11 runs over 54 at-bats. Lukes is a solid real-life fourth outfielder, but that doesn’t translate into much fantasy optimism.
