Contreras obliterated his home run at 110.2 mph and 421 feet. That was a nice welcome to the big leagues moment for Reds’ rookie starter Chase Petty. Overall, Contreras has done well to put an ugly start to the season behind him with an .824 OPS over his last 15 games and is currently riding a 13 game on-base streak. That is the Contreras we know and expected to see this season. It’s good to finally have him back.

Matz was impressive again working as a starter. He last started a game two weeks ago and similarly worked his way to around 70 pitches, then he hopped back in the bullpen for a couple appearances, and filled in nicely here when the Cardinals needed an extra starter for their double-header. He had great command of his changeup against a right-handed heavy Reds’ lineup and forced 12 total swings-and-misses. While he’s thrived in this swing-man role, he would become at least mildly interesting if he returned to the rotation full-time.

Graceffo provides the Cardinals with some extra depth behind lefty Steven Matz for the second game of Wednesday’s twin bill at Great American Ball Park. The 25-year-old righty will head back to Triple-A Memphis at the conclusion of the nightcap affair.

Winn’s homer off Brady Singer accounted for the game’s only run until the ninth, when Victor Scott II, Lars Nootbaar and Winn hit consecutive homers off Alexis Díaz. The homers were Winn’s second and third of the year. Winn was batting second for the first time this season today. That’s typically been Willson Contreras’s spot, but Contreras was dropped to fifth in spite of his improved production in recent weeks (he came into the day with a .359 average in his previous 10 games). The move up the lineup definitely makes Winn worth grabbing in mixed leagues in which he’s available.

Goldschmidt gets an opportunity in the leadoff spot on Wednesday night with young lefty Cade Povich toeing the rubber for Baltimore. It’ll be red-hot Trent Grisham batting second followed by franchise cornerstone Aaron Judge and emerging slugger Ben Rice in the heart of the order.

With the scored tied 0-0, Soderstrom laced a two-run double off Patrick Corbin to give the A’s the lead and ultimately the victory. The 23-year-old first baseman has been exceptional over the first month of the season with 24 RBI over 29 games and an OPS of .940.
