Finally, some genuine signs of life from Diaz. He was just a few feet shy of a two-homer game as his double fell just short of the wall and he scorched each of those hits at least 104 mph off the bat. He’s recorded a hit in seven of his last nine games and over that span took a paltry .404 OPS all the way up to a still very mediocre .597 OPS.

This was not the start Valdez envisioned having against the lowly White Sox. It took him 42 pitches to get through the first two innings where he gave up five hits and two runs in the process. Then it seemed like he was settling in before a two-out rally from the White Sox in the fifth plated two more runs and effectively ended Valdez’s outing. He struggled to spot both his curveball and changeup which made it difficult for him to put hitters away and his sinker velocity was down over a tick. That’s a bit worrisome and should be monitored. His next start is scheduled to come against the Brewers.

Peña is 8-for-17 in four games since moving into the leadoff spot for the Astros. Because of his middling averages and poor walk rates, Peña has never made much sense at the top of the order. This year, though, he does have a respectable eight-percent walk rate that’s more than twice as high as his 2024 mark. He’s also raised his average from .247 to .282 the last four days.

It’s a one-and-done for Blubaugh, who was charged with seven runs — two earned — over four innings on Wednesday in his big-league debut against the Tigers. He struck out six and only issued one walk. There simply isn’t a spot for him in Houston with Lance McCullers Jr. (elbow) set to make his long-awaited return from the injured list.

Kirk delivered a two-run single off of Logan Allen in the third inning that gave the Jays their first lead of the game at 2-1. He added another pair of singles in the contest as well. With the three-hit effort, the 26-year-old backstop is now hitting .260/.287/.354 on the young season with a pair of homers and 12 RBI.

The 29-year-old hurler will add a fresh arm to the Mets’ bullpen in advance of Friday night’s battle against the Cardinals. He had registered a 4.35 ERA, 1.84 WHIP and a 14/9 K/BB ratio over 10 1/3 innings at Triple-A Syracuse. Ty Adcock was optioned out in a corresponding move on Friday.

Evan in a month where Contreras didn’t exactly live up to his lofty expectations, the approach never changed. With two free passes, he’s drawn two walks in back-to-back games, and his on-base percentage is a very healthy .376 over the first 30 games of 2025. He’s also hit a decent .260 in that timeframe, but fantasy managers are still waiting to see some pop from Contreras on a more consistent basis with just three five -base hits over 107 at-bats. The pop should start showing up, as he’s far too talented a hitter to be slugging just .365 for much longer.
