Alvarez gave the Astros an insurance run in the eighth inning with a home run off Kyle Leahy to straightaway center field. It was the second home run of the season for the 27-year-old slugger as he’s been off to a relatively cold start. He’s slashing .224/.333/.362 with 10 RBI over 72 plate appearances.

Blanco was solid for five of six innings, but the third inning wasn’t one of those frames. He gave up an RBI single to William Contreras, and a two-run homer to Christian Yelich in that frame. Outside of that it was solid for the 31-year-old, just one where he received just a single run of support. Blanco will pitch again Sunday versus the Reds if there’s no change to the rotation order.

Not great. Alvarez heads to the injured list after sitting out a pair of games over the weekend with a lingering right hand issue. Astros manager Joe Espada didn’t seem too concerned over the weekend, so this certainly qualifies as a mild surprise. No word yet on how much time he’s going to miss, but we’re not anticipating an extended absence. There should be some much-needed clarity on his status at some point this week after Alvarez undergoes further evaluation and imaging to determine the severity of the issue.

Walker got off to a horrendous start to this season after an oblique injury derailed his spring training. It’s not much, but he’s quietly hitting .237 with three home runs and seven RBI over his last 15 games now. Walker is still hitting just .200 with nine RBI and a .623 OPS on the season making him an interesting buy-low option for fantasy managers.

Yelich gave the Brew Crew a 3-0 lead with a two-run blast off Ronel Blanco. That homer and the steal later in the contest put him at six homers, seven steals and 25 RBI over 36 games. He’s also hitting just .210, but at least the counting stats haven’t been abhorrent for the former MVP.

Winker was officially placed on the injured list ahead of Monday’s contest against the Diamondbacks and will likely be sidelined until mid-to-late June. The 31-year-old’s absence creates a void at DH against right-handed pitching. There’s an opportunity for youngsters Luisangel Acuña and Brett Baty to get increased opportunities in the coming weeks.

Winker’s absence frees up some additional at-bats at DH for the overabundance of talent on New York’s roster. The 31-year-old veteran suffered the oblique strain during Sunday’s doubleheader against the Cardinals and is facing a multi-week absence. No word yet on the severity of the strain, which will determine how much time he misses.
