The hero on Tuesday night, Alvarez found the Wrigley bleachers again with his 11th homer of the season. It soared 413 feet into the night sky, but wasn’t enough to help bring his squad back this time around. It’s been a tumultuous season for Alvarez that began with a fractured hamate bone, saw him demoted over the summer, and now playing through both a sprained thumb on one hand and broken pinkie on the other. Still, he’s up to a .260 batting average and .803 OPS on the season as it feels like he’s finally broken out.

After ball one to start the at-bat in the eighth, Alvarez took three very close pitches, with two of the calls going his way. If pitch four, a 2-1 fastball, had been called a strike, as it ought to have been, Alvarez probably wouldn’t have seen another fastball on pitch five. As is, he saw it well and sent it over the fence for his 10th homer in 72 games this season. The Mets also got homers from Francisco Lindor and Brandon Nimmo tonight, and they moved back ahead of the Reds by one game, though they will lose the tiebreaker if the two finish with the same record.

Alvarez, who has been a magnet for baseballs this season, was hit by a pitch on Tuesday and had to be removed from the game. He did return to the lineup on Wednesday, so this is likely just the Mets giving him a day off with a day game after a night game. Luis Torrens will start behind the plate.

Alvarez was removed after he was plunked in the arm during Tuesday’s win, but the 23-year-old backstop is ready to roll for the second game of the massive three-game set against San Diego.

Alvarez can’t seem to catch a break. The 23-year-old backstop, who is already playing through a broken finger and UCL sprain in his thumb, was in a significant amount of pain after being drilled by a pitch on the left arm. He’ll presumably head for further evaluation and possibly X-rays to determine the severity of the issue. An update on his status should come shortly.

Alvarez managed a good game in light of the utter catastrophe happening with the Mets right now. He hit a 102 mph opposite field laser off Jacob deGrom to get them on the board after falling behind 6-0 in the first inning and chipped in another hit later on. He had three hard-hit balls in total and it’s amazing he can still find this type of power while playing with a sprained thumb on one hand and broken pinkie on his other.

Alvarez will spend the rest of the year playing through a sprained thumb and fractured pinky on his throwing hand. One would think that would take quite a toll on his offense, but we’ll see. He did have a grand slam for Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday. Luis Torrens will return to a backup role with Alvarez back.

The 23-year-old backstop has been sidelined since August 18 due to a UCL sprain in his right thumb and a fractured pinky finger. He has played in minor league rehab games over the first half of the week without issue though and is ready to make his triumphant return to the big league roster. Fantasy managers can safely activate him for the weekend.

Describing major-league catchers as tough might be the understatement of the year. Alvarez, who is attempting to make it back from a UCL sprain in his right thumb, is back in the lineup to continue his minor league rehab assignment just a couple days after fracturing his left pinky finger when he was hit by a pitch. The fact he’s back behind the plate already is extremely encouraging as he tries to make it back to New York at some point in September.

Alvarez is still hopeful that he can catch before the end of the year, but keep in mind that the 23-year-old is also rehabbing from a UCL sprain in his right thumb. The backstop will likely be out of action for the foreseeable future, and it’s possible — but far from guaranteed — he’ll return later in September.

Ugh. Alvarez can’t catch a break. The 23-year-old backstop, who is attempting to play through a UCL sprain in his right thumb left his first rehab contest after being hit by a pitch on the opposite hand. He started at catcher and finished 1-for-2 with a double at the plate. He’ll presumably undergo further evaluation to determine the severity of the issue. There should be an update on his status at some point soon.

Alvarez has a torn ligament in his throwing hand, but he’s feeling like he can play through it. If his minor league games go well, he could be activated as soon as this weekend.

Alvarez will eventually require surgery to address a UCL sprain in his right thumb, but the Mets are optimistic he’ll be able to play through the issue for the remainder of the season. The 23-year-old backstop, who was in the midst of one of the best stretches of his career at the dish before getting hurt. He will be evaluated closely over the next few days as he resumes baseball activities. He should progress to a brief minor league rehab assignment later this week and return to New York by early September.

The move is now official. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters Alvarez will require thumb surgery, but there’s a possibility he can return and play through the injury for the rest of the season. The 23-year-old backstop will be re-evaluated in 10-14 days, according to a team statement. There should be a decision on his status at some point in early September. Luis Torrens will take over as New York’s starting backstop for now.

Alvarez underwent an MRI on his right thumb Monday, and while the results of that imaging are unknown — at least to the public — the Mets have reportedly seen enough to believe that the 23-year-old needs the next week-plus off. It’ll be Luis Torrens behind the dish more often than not while Alvarez is out.

Alvarez made an early exit from Sunday’s game against the Mariners after jamming his right thumb. He will undergo further testing to determine the severity of the issue. There should be an update on his status prior to Tuesday’s series opener against the Nationals.

The hard-hitting 23-year-old backstop opened the scoring in the ballgame with an RBI double off of George Kirby in the second inning. He then scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Mark Vientos. Alvarez also singled in the fifth inning and rode home on Vientos’ three-run shot. He’s hitting .265/.349/.438 with seven homers and 24 RBI through his first 209 plate appearances on the season.

Alvarez also doubled and scored another run in a monster game for the 23-year-old backstop. He was responsible for two of the six homers that the Mets picked up on the evening, and he’s now up to six in his 169 at-bats in 2025. If Alvarez can stay healthy, he has a chance to be one of the better fantasy catchers in the sport.

There was some initial concern after Alvarez left Wednesday’s game in the sixth inning shortly after being hit in his catcher’s mask by a check-swing foul ball. He’ll continue to be evaluated in the coming days, but it sounds like he’ll potentially be ready for Friday’s series opener agains the Giants.

Alvarez managed to finish out the fifth inning after being struck in the head on a check-swing foul ball off his catcher’s mask but didn’t come out for the ensuing frame. The 23-year-old backstop will presumably undergo evaluation and testing for a potential concussion. There should be an update on his status following Wednesday’s series finale.

Alvarez did his damage with two outs in the fifth inning, crushing a 2-2 changeup from Kyle Hendricks for a 374-foot (95.8 mph EV) two-run shot that evened the score at two runs apiece. The hard-hitting 23-year-old backstop also struck out, fouled out to first and reached on an error in the ballgame. For the season, he’s now hitting .240/.329/.364 with four homers and 13 RBI over his first 146 plate appearances.

A nice first game back in the majors for the 23-year-old. The Mets scored three times in the seventh after Alvarez walked to start the inning and twice in the eighth. Alvarez had the key blow then, doubling to wall in right. Chris Taylor probably should have caught it, but he got turned around and ended up on his backside as Jo Adell had to go chase down the ball. Alvarez later came around to score on a Brandon Nimmo sac fly, and Edwin Díaz shut the door in the ninth.

Alvarez rejoins the Mets after hitting .333/.433/.902 with nine homers in 14 games for Syracuse. Luis Torrens hasn’t contributed offensively in about six weeks now, so Alvarez should return as the primary starter, even if Torrens is probably the better defender of the two. He’ll most likely offer fantasy value in leagues that start two catchers.

The 23-year-old has been mashing since his demotion to Triple-A and the Mets could certainly benefit from his bat returning to the lineup. Expect an official move to be made prior to Monday’s series opener against the Angels.

He’s back. Alvarez has re-discovered his power stroke at the plate since last month’s surprising demotion, going deep a whopping eight times in 16 games at the Triple-A level since June 24. The 23-year-old slugging backstop looked like a potential franchise cornerstone when he ascended to the big leagues and immediately produced a 25-homer rookie campaign back in 2023. The hope here for fantasy managers is that his recent power surge has injected some much-needed confidence into his offensive mindset before he returns to the big leagues for the stretch run. It feels like only a matter of time before he’s back in New York.

The 23-year-old has eight home runs and 18 RBI in just 18 games at Triple-A Syracuse since his demotion. That comes with a .250/.333/.672 slash line. Perhaps more importantly, Alvarez’s pull rate is up 13 percent since being sent down, and he’s elevating the ball 20 percent more often. If he can get to his pullside power more often, Alvarez could be a real asset for the Mets down the stretch.

Alvarez went 3-for-4 with that home run in the first game of the doubleheader, which made it three games in a row with a home run since Alvarez was sent down to Triple-A. If he can keep showing that pullside power as well as improved defensive performance during his stint in the minors, Alvarez could be back up with the Mets in July.

Alvarez slashed .236/.319/.333 slash line with three homers in 138 plate appearances this season for the Mets, while also regressing defensively. He’s just 23 years old, so there is plenty of time for Alvarez to figure it out, but the team needs him to get back to driving the ball in the air while also improving behind the plate.
