The Rangers were scoreless through the fourth before a Jeremy Peña error to start the fifth. Alexander later gave up a 352-foot homer to Josh Jung and another run before being lifted. If not for the Peña error, he probably gets a win in a game in which the Astros prevailed 6-3. As is, he stays 4-1 with a 4.04 ERA. He’s due to make his next start against the Mariners on Sunday.

Serenity now! Alexander was excellent against a good Blue Jays lineup here. His process stats weren’t great, only forcing eight swings-and-misses and giving up more than a few hard line drives that just happened to find gloves, but he walked out unscathed nonetheless. He’s scheduled to face the Rangers in what will be a pivotal game for deciding playoff positioning next time out.

The 32-year-old right-hander struck out three batters on the night while allowing one base on balls. Dylan Beavers did all of the damage against him, with a solo shot in the second inning and then a fielder’s choice in the sixth that plated a run. Alexander got six whiffs on 91 pitches on the evening — five of them on his changeup — while registering a CSW of 31 percent. The expectation had been that Alexander would lose his spot in the team’s rotation once Lance McCullers Jr. was ready to return, but he has pitched so well over his last three starts that perhaps they’ll reconsider. He now holds a 4.41 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and a 38/19 K/BB ratio over 49 innings on the season.

It’s another solid effort for Alexander, who has likely earned another start or two in the Houston rotation. He has allowed just a pair of runs in his last 12 innings, and he was able to strike out six without issuing a walk. There’s reason for skepticism, but Alexander is worth streaming consideration assuming he faces the Orioles again Thursday.

Was that wrong? Alexander gave up just one hit and three walks over six scoreless innings against the Yankees, much to the dismay of the Steinbrenner family. Alexander also shutdown the Marlins in his last start and could be in line for more starting opportunities. He’s lined up to face the Orioles at home next weekend if the Astros keep him in the rotation.

Alexander did a phenomenal job avoiding hard contact in this one, limiting Miami’s underrated lineup to just three batted balls with exit velocities over 97 mph. He matched a season-high with six punchouts and allowed just four baserunners over six nearly flawless frames. He’s not exactly guaranteed anything beyond this outing, but he’s certainly earned another opportunity. He’s tentatively scheduled to take the ball on Sunday in a challenging road tilt against the Yankees to close out a two-start week.

Alexander stranded three runners through two scoreless innings before Luis García Jr. took him deep for a two-run homer in the third. He followed with a five-pitch fourth inning before leaving with a runner on and two outs in the fifth at 80 pitches. He struck out a season-high six batters. The 32-year-old right-hander is slated to take a 7.36 ERA, 1.83 WHIP, and a 20/14 K/BB ratio across 25 2/3 innings into a start against the Marlins in Miami on Monday.

Alexander struck out three batters on the evening while issuing two free passes. It wasn’t one big rally that did him in, as the A’s scratched out a run in the second inning, tacked on two more in the fourth and added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings against Alexander in this one. The 32-year-old hurler got 12 whiffs on 96 pitches on the night — 10 of those on his changeup — while posting a CSW of 26 percent. It’s unclear if he’ll stick around to hold Lance McCullers’ spot in the rotation for the time being on Wednesday or if the Astros will explore alternative options.

The 32-year-old hurler will draw a spot start for the Astors on Thursday against the Athletics. Alexander holds an uninspiring 8.40 ERA, 1.80 WHIP and an 11/10 K/BB ratio over 15 innings between the A’s and Astros this season. While he remains an unappealing fantasy option, his familiarity with the Athletics may play to his favor on Thursday.

The Dodgers won 18-1 and Alexander still gets a save. If someone had Alexander in their fantasy lineup and you faced him, you have every right to not speak to that opponent for a week.

The 32-year-old hurler turned in an abysmal outing against the Dodgers on Thursday night, giving up nine runs on seven hits and four walks in just 2 1/3 innings. It was bad enough that the team decided to cut bait with him immediately. He has flashed some upside in the past, so there could be another team willing to take a chance on him on waivers.
