The deal is now official. Anderson was cut loose by the Rockies earlier this weekend to give him an opportunity to latch on with a contender. A player needs to be in the organization by September 1 to be eligible for the postseason. The 35-year-old veteran offers some reliable middle relief depth for Seattle heading into the home stretch.

The 34-year-old right-hander exercised an opt-out clause in his minor league deal with the Cardinals and found an opportunity with a much clearer path to the big leagues. Anderson posted a 6.20 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and a 20/8 K/BB ratio over 20 1/3 innings in 17 appearances at Triple-A Memphis.
