Arcia singled during the Rockies’ two-run rally in the third inning but was erased on a fielder’s choice. He then smacked a two-out RBI single off of Matthew Boyd in the fourth that extended the Rockies’ advantage to 4-2. The 31-year-old infielder also led off the seventh inning with an infield single and scored on a sacrifice fly by Brenton Doyle. Even with his three-hit attack, Arcia is slashing a meager .207/.243/.302 with three homers and 13 RBI in 189 plate appearances on the season.

Arcia suffered the injury during Tuesday’s game against the Blue Jays. The Rockies gave it a few days to see if he could improve enough to avoid a trip to the injured list but ultimately couldn’t wait any longer. Aaron Schunk was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday to add infield depth for the Rockies.

Trevor Megill had recorded the first two outs in the ninth inning without issue as Arcia strolled to the dish representing the Rockies’ final hope while trailing by one run. After taking a knuckle curve for a strike to start the at-bat, Megill doubled up on the pitch and Arcia crushed a 386-foot solo shot to left center that tied the game at 2-2. That would be Arcia’s only hit in four at-bats on the day. For the season, the 30-year-old infielder is slashing just .196/.228/.299 with two homers and six RBI, so this will be a season highlight for him for sure.

Arcia has now started in three of the last four games, with two of those starts coming at first base. The Rockies seem interested in getting his bat in the lineup and may be souring on Keston Hiura, who has gone 3-for-16 with six strikeouts and no walks in seven starts with the Rockies.

The deal, which was first reported earlier this week, is now official. Arcia supplies Colorado with some experienced infield depth and figures to split time between multiple spots. The 30-year-old was released over the weekend by Atlanta after hitting just .194 over 14 games. The more concerning part is that his defensive metrics were abysmal during that stretch. He’s unlikely to make an impact for fantasy purposes, even with Coors Field helping his cause.
