Red Sox manager Alex Cora gave an obligatory update on Anthony’s status prior to Tuesday’s AL Wild Card Series opener against the Yankees. The 21-year-old rookie sensation is not close to making it back from an oblique strain and appears likely to miss a significant portion of the postseason, even if Boston winds up making a deep run.

Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow said Monday that Anthony is no longer dealing with any oblique-related pain or discomfort, but still has “quite a bit of room to go in terms of baseball activity.” It sounds like the Red Sox are leaving the door ajar for the possibility that Anthony could make it back during the postseason, but he’s not particularly close at the moment with less than one week left before the playoffs get underway.

Anthony has yet to resume baseball activities after hitting the injured list back on September 3 with a left oblique strain. Boston’s offense has gone into a tailspin since his departure from the leadoff spot, but it seems highly unlikely that he’ll be ready for the postseason with a potential Wild Card series roughly two weeks away at this point.

As expected, Anthony will be out at least two weeks with the strain, and it does appear this could be a season-ending injury for the 21-year-old rookie. It’s possible he could be an option if/when Boston makes the postseason, but for now, Nick Sogard takes his place on the roster.

Anthony left Tuesday’s game against Cleveland with tightness in his left oblique, and the expectation is that will keep him out of the lineup for the next week-plus, at minimum. Nick Sogard is expected to be recalled from Triple-A Worcester to replace the 21-year-old rookie. Just how much time Anthony will miss will likely be determined by imaging.

Not ideal. Anthony will undergo further evaluation and testing to determine whether a trip to the injured list is necessary. The hope for the Red Sox and fantasy managers is that the 21-year-old rookie’s exit was merely precautionary. Oblique issues are notoriously tricky and often linger, so this situation bears close watching. There should be a definitive update on his status ahead of Wednesday’s series finale.

Anthony appeared to grab at his lower back and left side after striking out in the fourth inning and was replaced in right field by Nate Eaton to open the fifth. He finished 1-for-3 with an RBI prior to leaving the contest. It’s cause for significant concern since the rookie phenom missed a couple games last month with mid-back tightness. As fantasy managers are aware, back and oblique issues can be complex matters. There should be a definitive update on his status at some point shortly.

Anthony’s home run was his eighth of the year. The 21-year-old outfielder hit a solo shot off Paul Skenes in the fifth inning. Anthony has six home runs and 10 RBI over his last 17 games. The rookie is hitting .295 with an .879 OPS and 30 RBI so far this season.

Anthony became the youngest player in franchise history to hit a leadoff homer when he took Orioles starter Tomoyuki Sugano deep with a gargantuan 410-foot blast to right-center field. It was his sixth round-tripper in 63 games with four of them coming since August 1. The 21-year-old rookie sensation has checked every metaphorical box on the future superstar checklist since arriving in the big leagues, slashing .283/.396/.451 with six homers, 28 RBI and four steals in 63 games.

The 21-year-old phenom tied the game in the sixth inning with a run-scoring single off of Camilo Doval. He then provided a pair of valuable insurance runs with a two-out, 370-foot (107.4 mph EV) two-run blast off of Yerry De Los Santos in the top half of the ninth inning. Anthony has impressed in his first 59 games with the Red Sox, slashing .286/.405/.448 with five homers, 26 RBI and four stolen bases in his first 252 plate appearances.

Anthony drew a walk and stole second in the first inning. He then walked and scored in both the third and sixth innings before going yard for a solo homer to lead off the eighth. Anthony drew his fourth walk of the game in the ninth and scored for a fourth time. The 21-year-old outfielder is hitting an outstanding.286/.406/.451 with four homers, 33 runs scored, 23 RBI, and three steals across 219 plate appearances.

Anthony managed a two-run homer against lefty reliever Steven Okert in the seventh to bring the Red Sox within a run tonight, but he couldn’t repeat the feat in striking out against Bennett Sousa with a man on and two outs in the bottom of the ninth. To go along with the 398-foot homer, Anthony had a 408-foot flyout in the fifth that would have been a homer in 15 parks. He’s batting .283/.394/.433 as a 21-year-old rookie.

The long-term extension, now official, keeps Anthony in Boston through at least 2033. The deal ostensibly buys out his arbitration-eligible seasons and a couple free agent years. Anthony gains financial security, and the Red Sox lock in a potential franchise cornerstone. The 21-year-old rookie sensation has more than lived up to the stratospheric hype since his mid-June call-up, slashing

Anthony missed a few games while dealing with tightness in the middle of his back, but the 21-year-old is back at it for Wednesday’s tilt versus Kansas City. Maybe the cure for back tightness is $130 million over eight years.

Anthony has been exactly as advertised since being promoted from Triple-A Worcester, slashing .283/.400/.428 with two home runs, 27 runs scored, 19 RBI, and two steals in 46 games. He has also posted a 10.7 percent barrel rate, 58 percent hard-hit rate, and just a 9.9 percent swinging strike rate as a 21-year-old rookie. The long-term extension, which starts in 2026, will pay him just over $16 million per year, which is about what veterans Andrew Benintendi and Tyler O’Neill are making. It ostensibly buys out all of his arbitration-eligible seasons and a couple additional free agent years. Once this contract is finalized, the Red Sox will have Anthony, Kristian Campbell, Ceddanne Rafaela, and Brayan Bello all recently signed to long-term contracts.

Cora added that Anthony could’ve played on Tuesday night, but the Red Sox are opting for caution with their 21-year-old cornerstone-in-the-making, even in the midst of a playoff push. All signs point to the issue being a relatively minor concern.

It sounded like the plan last night was to hold him out again in the hopes that he’d be good to go Wednesday. The Red Sox have Masataka Yoshida in left and Romy Gonzalez DHing tonight.

It’s an extremely encouraging update after Anthony was a late scratch from Monday’s lineup due to mid-back tightness. Cora added that the 21-year-old rookie will sit out Tuesday’s game against the Royals out of an abundance of caution, but he doesn’t expect him to miss any additional time. Back issues can be complicated matters, but it doesn’t appear that Anthony is dealing with a serious issue at the moment. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now.

The hope for the Red Sox — and fantasy managers — is that Anthony flagged the issue early before it became something more serious. The 21-year-old rookie sensation has been excellent since his early-June call-up, slashing .283/.400/.428 with 27 runs scored, two homers, 19 RBI and two steals across 46 games. There should be an update on his status following Monday’s series opener against the Royals.

No word on the reason for the move. It’s a massive concern for the Red Sox — and fantasy managers — if his absence is injury related. A replay on the team broadcast showed the 21-year-old rookie sensation appearing to be in some discomfort during pregame work before calling for a trainer. It’ll be Wilyer Abreu taking over in right field. There should be an update on his status shortly.

It feels like a matchup-specific adjustment from manager Alex Cora since Anthony has batted leadoff in five consecutive games. The 21-year-old rookie sensation, who delivered a walk-off hit to center field during the 10th inning of Friday’s series opener, has been moved to the heart of the lineup with Romy Gonzalez leading off and Rob Refsnyder in the cleanup spot to face Astros rookie southpaw Colton Gordon. Meanwhile, Jarren Duran has been dropped to seventh in the order for this one after hitting third in five straight contests and Wilyer Abreu is on the bench.

In his fifth straight start out of the lead-off spot, Anthony was the hero for the Red Sox. Behind 1-0 for most of this game, they scratched across a single run without a hit in the seventh inning against Hunter Brown, held the Astros’ scoreless in the top of the 10th, and then Anthony won it when he blasted a ‘single’ over Chas McCormick’s head in center field. Him and Nick Kurtz are as impressive a pair of rookies that we’ve seen in the same season in recent memory.

The 21-year-old rookie put together an incredibly impressive eight-pitch at-bat in the top of the ninth inning, fouling off multiple two-strike pitches against Twins closer Jhoan Duran before lacing a line drive single to center to give the Red Sox the lead. Anthony has been exactly as advertised since getting called up, and his spot as the leadoff hitter for Boston for the remainder of the season will give him a boost in fantasy leagues.

Anthony is in left field and leading off on Monday for the second straight game when the Red Sox face off against the Twins. Jarren Duran remains in center field and will bat third once again with Ceddanne Rafaela at second base and hitting eighth. The 21-year-old has lived up to the top-overall prospect billing since arriving in the big leagues back in early June, hitting .267/.385/.422 with 22 runs scored, two homers, 16 RBI and two steals across 40 games. He projects as a difference-maker for fantasy purposes, especially since he’ll continue leading off for a potent Red Sox lineup down the home stretch.

Anthony has been moved up to the top of the order for the first time since making his big-league debut back in early June. The 21-year-old top prospect has been in a groove at the dish recently, hitting .327 (16-for-49) with one homer, six RBI and one steal over his last 15 games. It wouldn’t be surprising if he continued to receive opportunities in the leadoff spot against right-handed starters. Jarren Duran is in center field with Ceddanne Rafaela making another start at second base during Sunday’s series finale against the Dodgers at Fenway Park.

Anthony will get a mental break during Wednesday’s series finale after going 1-for-9 with eight strikeouts over his previous two games. The 21-year-old prodigy has looked like the real deal in spurts since arriving in the majors back in early June, but he’s definitely striking out at a higher rate than the Red Sox would like to see. It’ll be Wilyer Abreu in right field on Wednesday night in his place.

That’s eight strikeouts in two days for Anthony, though at least his one ball in play in the series against the Phillies was a double. Also, he’s faced two of the NL’s best pitchers (Zack Wheeler on Monday), and he’s hardly looked overmatched on the whole. His current 26.7% strikeout rate is probably about what should have been expected from his first month and a half in the majors.

The 21-year-old phenom got the Red Sox on the board with a run-scoring double off of Colin Rea in the third inning that pulled them to within two runs at 3-1. That would be as close as they would get. He also drew a walk in the ballgame. He’s now hitting a respectable .266/.375/.413 with a pair of homers, 14 RBI, two stolen bases and a 28/16 K/BB ratio through his first 128 plate appearances in the big leagues.
