The Orioles ran out of fireworks for their home runs. We’re not even kidding about that, that actually happened. None of these homers were cheapies either -- 410 feet, 395 feet, 411 feet, 395 feet, and 393 feet, and of the five, all of them would have been homers in at least 27 of 30 stadiums. The Orioles simply crushed Bello’s fastballs, be they sinker, cutter, or 4-seam, for all 11 of his hard-hit balls allowed. This is Bello’s first true disaster start of the season, but he’d be a tough stream at this point with his 9.00 ERA. A date with the Blue Jays awaits next week.

Bello loaded the bases with two singles and a walk, then walked in a run in the first inning before getting out of trouble. After a long 35-pitch first inning, he bounced back with a clean second. He had retired eight straight until Kerry Carpenter took him deep for a solo homer in the fourth inning. Detroit tacked on two more runs in the inning on a walk and two hits. Bello would be done after four innings at 84 pitches, only 48 for strikes. The 26-year-old right-hander ends the day with a 6.75 ERA, 1.93 WHIP, and a 13/12 K/BB ratio across 18 2/3 innings. He lines up for a start against the Yankees in Boston on Thursday.

Bello’s velocity was up about 0.5 mph today, giving him a little more of a chance to get in on the hands of hitters and generate some grounders. He still settled for just two strikeouts, however. He’s now 1-1 with a 6.14 ERA. He’ll likely match up against Tarik Skubal next weekend against the Tigers.

Bello also struck out five and walked four while posting a 47 percent whiff rate but just a 58 percent strike rate. The 26-year-old never registered whiffs near this rate last season. His cutter had 10 whiffs on 15 swings, and his changeup also earned five more whiffs and has started to look better than the version of the pitch we saw last year. Bello also didn’t allow much hard contact, with just a 78-mph average exit velocity allowed. He’ll need to throw more strikes, but this version of Bello is worth streaming this weekend against the Cardinals.

The one encouraging thing about Bello’s outing tonight was that his cutter performed incredibly well; he threw it 21 times for seven whiffs, five called strikes and three instances of soft contact, though two of those turned into hits. Nothing else stood out, and he just didn’t have an answer for Yordan Alvarez, who homered and doubled off him. He’s not a mixed-league quality starter right now, but he’ll probably be adequate for Boston if the Red Sox choose to start hitting at some point. He’ll face the Brewers next.

Bello scattered three hits on the night and didn’t walk a batter. The 26-year-old hurler was in complete command in this one, generating 13 swings and misses on 69 pitches and posting a strong CSW of 36 percent. We have seen both the good and the bad sides of Bello this spring as he has compiled an inconsistent 5.65 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and a 17/2 K/BB ratio over 14 1/3 innings in four Grapefruit League starts. When he’s going right though — as he was on Thursday — he can dominate any lineup.

Bello allowed just four hits on the night and didn’t walk a batter. It’s his second straight start with seven punchouts after he fanned seven against Team Israel in his last start for the Dominican Republic on Monday. Bello got 12 swings and misses on 67 pitches on the night — five on his sinker — while posting a CSW of 34 percent. He still holds a 9.72 ERA in Grapefruit League play, but he flashed once again on Saturday that type of upside that he possesses when going right.

Bello faced just the one batter over the minimum. His velocity is still down 1-1.5 mph from last year, as it was in his two starts for the Red Sox before joining the Dominican team. He was plenty effective today against a lineup that included two MLB bats (Horwitz and Harrison Bader), but what he’s showed so far this spring probably isn’t going to result in a strong ERA versus major league lineups.

It’s an improvement over his two starts before leaving Red Sox camp. Still, not much is going with Bello’s new slider and revamped changeup. He threw the slider seven times today, resulting in three balls, two fouls, a 99-mph grounder and a HBP. The changeup was used just twice. Bello’s next start will come in the Dominican Republic’s third game against Israel.

Bello gave up single runs in both the first and second and then allowed three straight hits to start the third before being pulled. The Braves went on to score 11 runs in the frame. Bello’s velocity is nearly at his usual norms, but his spin rates are down and his cutter was hit hard a few times today. He’s making some changes to his arsenal this spring, so it’s no surprise that he’s having some difficulties. Still, this makes nine runs allowed through 3 1/3 innings in two outings, neither of which he was able to complete as scheduled.

All four runs came in the first, when Bello was pulled after 24 pitches. He came back out for the second and threw 11 pitches in a scoreless frame then. Bello’s velocity was down about one mph from last year. He threw his remade changeup six times for one whiff and five balls.

When Bello debuted with Boston, his changeup was arguably his best pitch. In the years since, he has spent a lot of time trying to find the release and movement on his slider, and his changeup has suffered. This spring, Bello wanted to change the grip on his changeup and has begun taking notes from new teammate Ranger Suarez. He’s also working to bring back the curveball he had early in his career, which would deepen an arsenal that includes a four-seamer, sinker, cutter, sweeper/slider and changeup. The additions of a sinker and cutter have helped Bello induce weak contact and keep his ratios low. Perhaps the curve or changeup could help bring the strikeouts that would lead to a breakout season.

Castillo did a nice job in 41 appearances between Double-A Hartford and Triple-A Albuquerque in 2025, compiling a 2.94 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and a 64/27 K/BB ratio across 52 innings of work. With a strong showing in Cactus League action, it’s possible that the 25-year-old hurler could push for a spot in the Rockies’ Opening Day bullpen.

Bello threw just 28 pitches in a losing effort against the Bombers in Game 2 on Wednesday, so he’ll be available if he’s needed on Thursday. Garrett Whitlock will also be available. The only pitcher on the Red Sox’ staff that’s unlikely to be available is Garrett Crochet, and Cora even hinted that he could be in a pinch when saying “probably not” when asked about his availability. Expect an all hands on deck situation as the Red Sox attempt to stave off elimination.

It wasn’t a traditional postseason clunker as Bello surrendered a two-run blast to Ben Rice in the opening frame and was lifted after recording just seven outs and throwing only 28 pitches. Things could’ve gone a lot worse, which is the only consolation here. The 26-year-old righty was outstanding during a couple regular-season starts against New York, but Red Sox manager Alex Cora was unlikely to let him work too deep into this one against a lefty-heavy lineup.

Bello will take the ball for a pivotal Game 2 matchup at Yankee Stadium with Lucas Giolito (elbow) done for the postseason. The 26-year-old was a reliable mid-rotation arm for the Red Sox during the regular season, posting a career-best 3.35 ERA across 166 2/3 innings over 29 appearances (28 starts). Boston skipper Alex Cora indicated it’ll likely be rookie southpaw Connelly Early drawing the starting assignment for a win-or-go-home Game 3 contest, if necessary.

Bello also issued three free passes on the evening while punching out three opposing hitters. The 26-year-old hurler actually shut the Jays out through the first five innings, but ran into trouble to start the sixth as Vladimir Guerrero Jr. reached on an error, Addison Barger drew a walk and Anthony Santander was plunked to load the bases. Bello then turned the ball over to the bullpen and all three runs scored on Daulton Varsho’s grand slam. Bello got six whiffs on 89 pitches on the night, registering a CSW of 24 percent. He finishes the regular season with an 11-9 record, 3.35 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and a 124/59 K/BB ratio over 166 2/3 innings of work.

The Red Sox wanted to “Give him a breather,” said manager Alex Cora, which is why Bello is being given some extra rest after four starts in September that have seen him post a 5.85 ERA in 20 innings. It’s nice that the Red Sox are noticing the trend and giving Bello some extra time, but fantasy managers should look elsewhere in the final week of the season.

Bello’s return to May form isn’t something the Red Sox were banking on this month. He’s totaled 20 innings and posted a 5.85 ERA in four starts during September. From June through August, he had a 2.66 ERA and completed six innings in 15 of 18 starts, never throwing fewer than five. Bello will face the Blue Jays on Wednesday.

Bello labored in the first inning against the Yankees as he loaded the bases with no outs. A sacrifice fly and base hit brought two runs in to score and Bello loaded the bases again before getting out of the inning with two strikeouts. A walk and two hits put a third run on the board for New York in the third, and Jazz Chisholm would drive in a fourth with a solo homer in the fifth inning. Bello’s day would be done after five frames. The 26-year-old right-hander will take a 3.25 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and a 118/54 K/BB ratio across 157 2/3 innings into a start against the Athletics in Boston on Thursday.

Bello struck out two batters on the day while issuing one base on balls. The Diamondbacks scored on an RBI single by Blaze Alexander in the second inning, on a wild pitch in the fourth and on an RBI double off the bat of Gabriel Moreno in the sixth inning. Bello got seven whiffs on 91 pitches on the day, posting an underwhelming CSW of only 19 percent. The 26-year-old hurler will carry a 3.12 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and a 114/51 K/BB ratio (152 2/3 innings) into a tough matchup against the Yankees on Saturday.

Bello racked up just four strikeouts while walking three and registering a 27 percent whiff rate and 29 percent CSW. All of the damage came in the second inning when he allowed three runs and three hits, but he settled down after that. Bello still has some room to grow in terms of his strikeout upside, but this has been a true breakout for the 26-year-old, who will carry a 3.07 ERA into a start against the Athletics next week.

Bello was on the hook for a potential loss after an untimely miscommunication between Jarren Duran and Ceddanne Rafaela allowed a seventh-inning fly ball to drop for a go-ahead double with two outs in the frame. Fortunately, Rafaela got his redemption a couple frames later with a go-ahead homer. The 26-year-old righty wasn’t dominant by any stretch, but the performance was still good for his 15th quality start of the year. He’ll face the Guardians on Monday in his next outing.

Bello essentially repeated the outing he had against the Yankees on June 16 with seven scoreless innings, though he had eight strikeouts in that game and only five on Friday. Bello has a 3.07 ERA with a 4.25 xFIP, which suggests some regression could be coming soon. He’s lined up to face the Orioles on the road next week.

Bello tossed four scoreless innings before Troy Johnston took him deep for a solo homer in the fifth. Agustín Ramírez later went yard for a solo blast to lead off the seventh. Bello would record one out in the frame and leave with two runners on at 78 pitches. He struck out two. The 26-year-old right-hander will take a 3.23 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, and a 97/45 K/BB ratio across 128 innings into a start against the Yankees in New York on Friday.

Bello struck out seven. Two of the six hits he allowed, including one of the two doubles, were weak flyballs with sub-.100 xBAs, and it could have made a big difference for the Red Sox today had they employed Ceddanne Rafaela in center and Jarren Duran in left instead of Rafaela at second and Duran in center. It still seems ludicrous to think having Masataka Yoshida at DH is worth such an obvious defensive downgrade. Bello dropped to 8-6 with a 3.25 ERA ahead of a home start against the Marlins next weekend.

Bello was staked to a five-run cushion by the second inning and has no trouble cruising to his eighth win of the season. He struck out five and only handed out one free pass. The 26-year-old righty has allowed three earned runs or fewer in 13 consecutive starts dating back to May 23. He’ll carry a strong 3.03 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 88/42 K/BB ratio across 116 innings (20 appearances, 19 starts) into Sunday’s road tilt against the Padres.

It was a low-energy day from the Twins, and though Bello didn’t seem to be at his best while striking out four and walking four, it didn’t much matter against a lineup with a top four of Trevor Larnach, Brooks Lee, Kody Clemens and Ryan Jeffers. Bello moved to 7-5 with a 3.19 ERA. He’ll face the Royals next time out.

Bello was mostly done in by a poor third inning where loaded the bases with one out, walked in a run, and then wriggled out of trouble after a sacrifice fly. He leaned on his new cutter in the strike zone and forced nine total swings-and-misses with his sweeper and changeup. He located those two pitches especially well and all things considered, pitched a fine game. This Dodgers lineup is just relentless. Bello’s next start is scheduled to come on the road against the Twins.
