Berti had been with the Cubs since Opening Day, but he had just 107 plate appearances in 53 games and hit .210/.262/.239 with no homers and 11 steals. Someone else might have more use for his versatility and speed off the bench.

Gray received positive news after undergoing imaging on his right wrist Tuesday, and now the 33-year-old has been cleared for what has been described as “light” throwing. The right-hander is still months away from a return, but this is a positive first step in his hopes to return after the All-Star break.

Gray isn’t expected to return until July or August after suffering a fractured right wrist back in mid-March. The 33-year-old recently underwent imaging that showed his wrist is healing well. There should be a clearer return timetable once he resumes throwing in a couple weeks.
