Schneider’s latest eliminates the possibility that Berríos will be part of Toronto’s potential World Series roster. The 31-year-old righty has resumed throwing but won’t make it back before the playoffs conclude. He’s been on the shelf since late September recovering from elbow inflammation. All signs point to him being ready for spring training.

Berrios was placed on the 15-day injured list September 25 with inflammation in his right elbow, and he won’t be ready to pitch during the five game series against the Yankees or Red Sox. It’s plausible — but not guaranteed — he could join Toronto for the ALCS if the team were to advance.

It’s an issue that has apparently been bothering the 31-year-old hurler for a while now. He’ll undergo an MRI exam to determine the severity of the issue. Paxton Schultz was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move to take his place in the Blue Jays’ bullpen.

The Jays could have held Berríos back for Thursday with Chris Bassitt going on the IL, but they preferred to use him while down 4-0 in the seventh tonight. He’ll probably get one more outing this weekend to make a case for a bullpen spot in the postseason.

Berríos has been demoted to the bullpen for the remainder of the season with Toronto deciding to roll with electrifying top prospect Trey Yesavage in the rotation as a traditional starter. The decision comes after the 31-year-old veteran failed to complete five innings for the third time in his last five outings earlier this week. He’ll likely operate in relief at some point this weekend against Kansas City and his postseason role seems to be up in the air. He can be safely dropped in all re-draft fantasy formats at this juncture.

The 31-year-old hurler also issued a pair of walks in the contest and didn’t record a single strikeout. All of the damage done against him came on one mighty swing of the bat by Brandon Lowe in the third inning. Berríos got just two swings and misses on 78 pitches in the ballgame, posting an underwhelming CSW of 21 percent. He’ll look to bounce back as he brings a 4.06 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and a 135/54 K/BB ratio (164 innings) into Sunday’s matchup against the Royals in Kansas City.

Berríos danced around plenty of hard contact to keep the Astros’ relatively at bay here. Of their 16 total batted balls, nine were hard-hit and seven were hit harder than 100 mph. Lately, his slurve has been catching too much of the plate and that happened again in this start. That’s a huge reason why he has a 5.28 ERA since the beginning of June. He’ll head to Tampa Bay to face the Rays next time out.

It’s the shortest start for Berríos since 2022. He’s now given up 40 runs — 32 earned — in 52 2/3 innings since the beginning of July, good for a 5.47 ERA. However, he’s 5-2 in that span anyway, and after winning tonight, the Jays are 19-9 when he starts this season. Some might want him pulled from the Toronto rotation in favor of Eric Lauer or maybe a minor leaguer, but it doesn’t seem likely that it will happen. He’s due to face the Astros next week.

Berríos was originally slated to take the ball this weekend against the Brewers, but the Blue Jays decided to give him a couple days of extra rest. It’s a welcome development for fantasy purposes as he’ll face a less-challenging Cincinnati lineup instead.

Berríos has made 27 starts already this season and is up to 152 2/3 innings. The 31-year-old durable workhorse has made exactly 32 starts in each of the past three seasons. He was slated the face the sizzling-hot Brewers on Saturday. It’s a welcome development for fantasy managers since he’ll draw a more favorable start early next week against the Reds instead.

Berríos was lights out through six innings against the Marlins, holding them to just one hit with no walks going into the seventh. Miami would finally get to him with three straight singles to drive home a run and knock Berríos from the game at 81 pitches with eight strikeouts. One of the inherited runners would come in to score. The 31-year-old right-hander ends the day with a 3.95 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, and a 129/49 K/BB ratio across 152 2/3 innings. He’s in line to take on the Brewers in Toronto on next Saturday.

The veteran struck out two and walked nobody, but he allowed four extra-base hits, including two home runs, while posting a 22 percent whiff rate and 28 percent CSW. He had been enjoying a strong season — he held a 3.26 ERA on June 27 — but Berríos has now allowed 17 runs on 38 hits in 31 innings since the All-Star Break. We’d bench him in shallow leagues against the Brewers next week.

Berríos walked four and struck out three, but the Cubs just couldn’t do any damage against him. He improved to 4-0 in his last five starts, even though his ERA has held steady during the span (3.75 to 3.74). His peripherals have been mediocre all year long, but with the Jays hitting and playing excellent defense, he’s been pretty useful in fantasy leagues recently. He’ll face the Rangers next.

Berrios surrendered a two-run homer to Hunter Goodman in the first inning. He settled in for four more scoreless frames before running into trouble in the sixth. A hit batter and three singles would bring two more runs in to score for the Rockies before Berríos was replaced with one out in the inning, ending his day with five strikeouts. The 31-year-old right-hander will take a 3.89 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, and a 116/45 K/BB ratio across 136 2/3 innings into a start against the Cubs in Toronto next Tuesday.

Berrios did have some shaky defense behind him — in this case two errors by Ernie Clement — but don’t confuse “unearned runs” with “effective pitching.” The right-hander allowed two homers, and he allowed six hits while striking out only three. Berrios was not particularly effort in the month of July, and he saw his ERA rise from 3.26 to 3.84 in the process. He’ll get a chance to get August off to a good start against the Rockies next week, but it’s worth noting that outing is in Colorado.

The 31-year-old right-hander punched out six batters on the night while issuing a pair of free passes. The damage done against him came on an RBI double off the bat of Dillon Dingler in the second inning and a solo blast by Spencer Torkelson in the sixth. Berríos got 10 swings and misses on 85 pitches on the night, registering a CSW of 31 percent. Now 7-4 on the season, he’ll carry a 3.83 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and a 108/44 K/BB ratio (127 innings) into Wednesday’s matchup against the Orioles in Baltimore.

Berríos can certainly thank his offense for this win. The veteran struck out five and walked one on the day, but he allowed plenty of hard contact with a 93.4 mph average exit velocity on balls in play. He posted a 22 percent whiff rate and 30 pecent CSW, but had just a 43 percent zone rate and failed to command any pitch other than his curve. He’ll take a 3.87 ERA into a tough start against the Tigers next week.

The 31-year-old hurler issued a pair of free passes in the ballgame while recording only one strikeout. All of the damage that was done against him came via the long ball with Austin Wynns crushing a two-run homer in the second inning and Tyler Soderstrom belting a two-run shot in the third. Berríos got just three swings and misses on 61 pitches on the day, posting a CSW of 16 percent. He finishes the first half with a 5-4 record, 3.75 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and a 97/41 K/BB ratio across 115 1/3 innings in 20 starts.

Berríos excelled even though his velocity was down about 1.5 mph tonight. Between that and the early hook after 72 pitches, we wouldn’t be surprised to learn that he was under the weather or something. It’s the sixth time in eight starts that Berríos has allowed one or no runs. Unfortunately, he did give up six in the other two, but even so, his ERA has declined from 4.22 to 3.53 during the stretch. He’ll face the A’s in his final start of the first half.

All of the runs scored in the fifth, which started with four straight singles prior to a long 391-foot double from Aaron Judge. After a Cody Bellinger lineout, Giancarlo Stanton hit a three-run homer to end Berríos’s night. Berríos’s last seven starts have seen him given up zero runs three times, one run twice and six runs twice. He’ll probably bounce back next time out against the White Sox.

This was vintage Berríos. His lineup gave him an early lead and he never let Boston get close to clawing their way back into this game. He worked all four quadrants of the zone with his slurve leading the way followed by an even mix of fastballs, sinkers, and changeups. He’s now completed at least six innings in seven of his last eight starts and has a fantastic 3.26 ERA on the season. His next start is scheduled to come at home against the Yankees.

Berríos was outstanding at home against the White Sox. The only run in against the 31-year-old right-hander was an unearned run in the sixth on a triple and a throwing error. He allowed just one other hit and three walks while striking out five. Berríos will take a solid 3.51 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and an 81/36 K/BB ratio across 95 innings into a start against the Red Sox in Boston on Friday.

Berrios gave up nine hits, walked one and struck out five. Even without Bryce Harper, the Phillies’ lineup is a difficult matchup for opposing pitchers. Berrios hadn’t allowed more than three runs in five consecutive starts entering Sunday, but was hit hard. The 31-year-old right-hander has a 3.81 ERA and 76/33 K/BB ratio in 87 1/3 innings this year. He’s set to face the White Sox at home in a much easier matchup next weekend.

Berríos left with a 3-0 lead that went to 4-0 before the bullpen wiped it out by giving up four runs in the bottom of the eighth. It’s pretty remarkable that he has recorded just two wins while giving the Jays nine quality starts and a 3.38 ERA over 82 2/3 innings this season. He’s pitching a little better than he did last season, when he finished 16-11 with a 3.60 ERA in 32 starts. If he matches up with Paul Skenes at any point, the score might go into the negatives. Next up, though, is a matchup with the Phillies and probably Zack Wheeler on Sunday.

The lone run came on a Nick Castellanos homer. Berríos has turned in four straight quality starts, a stretch that’s dropped his ERA from 4.33 to 3.67. His peripherals are still somewhat worse than his ERA, but they’ve gotten better, too. We still wouldn’t recommend him in shallow leagues, but he definitely seems like a better play now than a month ago. He’ll get the Cardinals next time.

The 31-year-old right-hander allowed just two hits on the night while walking a pair. The Jays’ offense staked him to an eight-run advantage after the second inning and all Berríos had to do was keep the train on the tracks to earn a victory in this one. His only jam came in the sixth inning where the first two batters reached, but they never advanced from there as Berríos bore down to retire the next three hitters in order. He got 11 whiffs on 90 pitches on the evening, registering a CSW of 32 percent. He’ll try to replicate this outstanding effort when he brings a 3.86 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and a 65/28 K/BB ratio (70 innings) into Wednesday’s tilt against the Phillies.

Berríos hasn’t been dominant at any point, but this is his sixth quality start to go along with a pair of other nice outings in which he didn’t quite complete six innings. He should have at least four or five wins. Instead, due to a lack of offense and the bullpen blowing leads for him on three occasions, he’s 1-2 with a 4.22 ERA. He’ll face the A’s next.

Berrios gave up eight hits, walked one and struck out four. It was his fourth quality start in his last six starts. Berrios has lowered his ERA to 4.19, but his 4.25 xFIP suggests he’s not going to lower it to last year’s 3.60 ERA again. Berrios is lined up to face the Rays on the road next weekend.

Berrios was able to generate 18 whiffs over 89 pitches while allowing five hits. He also issued five walks, but those free passes were left on base as both runs allowed were solo homers. This makes three-of-four outings being quality starts, and he’s lowered his ERA from 5.02 to 3.86 in the process. He gets the Rays next week.
