Berríos threw 70 pitches in his latest rehab outing and could potentially return to Toronto’s rotation mix next week. He struck out two, issued a pair of walks and also served up two homers. The 31-year-old veteran is working his way back from a stress fracture in his elbow and figures to be ready in the near future, if he’s not activated next week.

If all goes well with that outing, the 31-year-old hurler could be cleared to return to the Blue Jays’ rotation. With Trey Yesavage also nearing a return, the Jays are going to have to make some big decisions soon on the status of their rotation, with Patrick Corbin and Eric Lauer potentially winding up on the outside looking in.

Berríos reportedly averaged 93.5 mph on his fastball and maxed out at 94.6 during the 55-pitch outing. He tallied five strikeouts and scattered three hits over four strong frames. The 31-year-old veteran is working his way back from a stress fracture in his elbow and figures to make it back to Toronto’s rotation in early May.

Berríos threw 47 pitches and allowed five runs over 2 1/3 innings on Thursday in his rehab debut. The 31-year-old lefty will continue building up his pitch count and stamina in the lower minors with an aim towards rejoining Toronto’s rotation at some point in early May.

Berríos also struck out three and walked one on the day. He averaged 93.5 mph on his sinker, which is great for his first rehab start. He also threw 47 pitches, which means he could be up around 60 or above in his next outing. The results weren’t great, but the Blue Jays will care more about velocity and pitch count. Berríos could be back in the Blue Jays rotation by the start of May at this point.

Berríos will aim for roughly 50 pitches over three innings during his first rehab outings. The 31-year-old lefty will need a couple additional tune-up starts to build up his pitch count and stamina before returning to Toronto’s rotation. He’s been out recovering from a stress fracture in his elbow since spring training.

The expectation is that the 31-year-old hurler will throw around 50 pitches in his first rehab start and build up from there. If everything goes according to plan, he could be an option to join the Jays’ rotation in late April or early May.

Berríos faced hitters at Low-A Dunedin over the weekend and will repeat the session this week. The 31-year-old righty is close to making a minor league rehab start and could potentially make it back to Toronto’s rotation mix by the end of the month, barring any setbacks.

Berríos will progress to facing hitters in a live batting practice session later this week. The 31-year-old veteran starter hit the injured list at the end of spring training with a stress fracture in his elbow. He’ll need a few rehab starts to rebuild his pitch count and stamina, but could return to Toronto’s rotation mix by late April or early May.

Berríos is expected to be cleared to resume throwing soon after being diagnosed with a stress fracture in his right elbow earlier this month. His absence puts additional strain on Toronto’s rotation mix since he would’ve had a clear path to a spot prior to the injury. He should be ready to make his season debut by the end of April.

The right-hander claims that he is “symptom-free and the plan is to resume throwing after a few days off.” However, given the nature of the injury and his declining performance, we don’t recommend drafting him in any fantasy leagues right now. Eric Lauer and Trey Yeasavage will likely work in tandem in the final spot of the rotation.

That’s not typically a good sign. The Blue Jays had previously said they were not concerned about a major injury for Berrios, but it’s hard to be as confident in that now. He likely wasn’t on fantasy radars anyway so this shouldn’t change that, but it may change value in the rest of the Blue Jays rotation. The team had wanted to be cautious with Trey Yesavage’s innings, but they may not have that luxury anymore. Of course, they could just move Eric Lauer into the rotation or piggyback Lauer and Yesavage. This also means Cody Ponce’s spot in this rotation is very secure, and he should be going higher in drafts.

Seems like this is the reason that Berríos didn’t join Puerto Rico’s WBC roster for the quarterfinals. It’s hard to read too much into inflammation without missed time throwing — though Schneider did say Berríos won’t start today for the Jays — but it’s less than ideal for this to pop up a scant few weeks from the start of the season.

When manager Yadier Mollina announced earlier in the day that Berríos would join the team, we assumed this hurdle had already been overcome. Apparently not. Berríos is coming off an elbow issue that prematurely ended his 2025, but he’s looked fine this spring while allowing four runs in 10 2/3 innings over three outings for the Blue Jays.

Puerto Rico manager Yadier Molina told reporters Berríos has received clearance to pitch and will be available for the remainder of the international tournament. The 31-year-old veteran’s arrival provides a significant lift for Puerto Rico heading into the quarterfinals. They wrap up pool play against Canada on Tuesday night following three straight victories.

Berríos, who would prefer to be pitching for Puerto Rico right now, gave up five hits, including a Dominic Fletcher homer, walked one and struck out three. He’s in line to open the season in Toronto’s rotation, though he could be in jeopardy of losing his spot once Max Scherzer or Shane Bieber is deemed ready.

Nine balls in play against Berríos, but only two were hit hard and just one had an xBA over .200. His velocity is fine, and he’s feeling confident about his health after last year’s elbow woes. We still wouldn’t expect him to have any mixed-league value, but he should be decent enough in the Jays rotation when he’s needed.

Berríos’s velocity was down about one mph from 2025, but he said after the game that he feels 100 percent after last year’s arm woes and he’s actually still hoping to be cleared to pitch for Puerto Rico in the WBC. Berríos’s rotation status with the Jays was in doubt for much of the winter, but he should have a spot initially with Shane Bieber set to go on the IL.

Schneider’s latest eliminates the possibility that Berríos will be part of Toronto’s potential World Series roster. The 31-year-old righty has resumed throwing but won’t make it back before the playoffs conclude. He’s been on the shelf since late September recovering from elbow inflammation. All signs point to him being ready for spring training.

Berrios was placed on the 15-day injured list September 25 with inflammation in his right elbow, and he won’t be ready to pitch during the five game series against the Yankees or Red Sox. It’s plausible — but not guaranteed — he could join Toronto for the ALCS if the team were to advance.

It’s an issue that has apparently been bothering the 31-year-old hurler for a while now. He’ll undergo an MRI exam to determine the severity of the issue. Paxton Schultz was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move to take his place in the Blue Jays’ bullpen.

The Jays could have held Berríos back for Thursday with Chris Bassitt going on the IL, but they preferred to use him while down 4-0 in the seventh tonight. He’ll probably get one more outing this weekend to make a case for a bullpen spot in the postseason.

Berríos has been demoted to the bullpen for the remainder of the season with Toronto deciding to roll with electrifying top prospect Trey Yesavage in the rotation as a traditional starter. The decision comes after the 31-year-old veteran failed to complete five innings for the third time in his last five outings earlier this week. He’ll likely operate in relief at some point this weekend against Kansas City and his postseason role seems to be up in the air. He can be safely dropped in all re-draft fantasy formats at this juncture.

The 31-year-old hurler also issued a pair of walks in the contest and didn’t record a single strikeout. All of the damage done against him came on one mighty swing of the bat by Brandon Lowe in the third inning. Berríos got just two swings and misses on 78 pitches in the ballgame, posting an underwhelming CSW of 21 percent. He’ll look to bounce back as he brings a 4.06 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and a 135/54 K/BB ratio (164 innings) into Sunday’s matchup against the Royals in Kansas City.

Berríos danced around plenty of hard contact to keep the Astros’ relatively at bay here. Of their 16 total batted balls, nine were hard-hit and seven were hit harder than 100 mph. Lately, his slurve has been catching too much of the plate and that happened again in this start. That’s a huge reason why he has a 5.28 ERA since the beginning of June. He’ll head to Tampa Bay to face the Rays next time out.

It’s the shortest start for Berríos since 2022. He’s now given up 40 runs — 32 earned — in 52 2/3 innings since the beginning of July, good for a 5.47 ERA. However, he’s 5-2 in that span anyway, and after winning tonight, the Jays are 19-9 when he starts this season. Some might want him pulled from the Toronto rotation in favor of Eric Lauer or maybe a minor leaguer, but it doesn’t seem likely that it will happen. He’s due to face the Astros next week.

Berríos was originally slated to take the ball this weekend against the Brewers, but the Blue Jays decided to give him a couple days of extra rest. It’s a welcome development for fantasy purposes as he’ll face a less-challenging Cincinnati lineup instead.

Berríos has made 27 starts already this season and is up to 152 2/3 innings. The 31-year-old durable workhorse has made exactly 32 starts in each of the past three seasons. He was slated the face the sizzling-hot Brewers on Saturday. It’s a welcome development for fantasy managers since he’ll draw a more favorable start early next week against the Reds instead.

Berríos was lights out through six innings against the Marlins, holding them to just one hit with no walks going into the seventh. Miami would finally get to him with three straight singles to drive home a run and knock Berríos from the game at 81 pitches with eight strikeouts. One of the inherited runners would come in to score. The 31-year-old right-hander ends the day with a 3.95 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, and a 129/49 K/BB ratio across 152 2/3 innings. He’s in line to take on the Brewers in Toronto on next Saturday.

The veteran struck out two and walked nobody, but he allowed four extra-base hits, including two home runs, while posting a 22 percent whiff rate and 28 percent CSW. He had been enjoying a strong season — he held a 3.26 ERA on June 27 — but Berríos has now allowed 17 runs on 38 hits in 31 innings since the All-Star Break. We’d bench him in shallow leagues against the Brewers next week.
