As a team, the A’s were only able to muster four total hits and two walks in the contest — with Butler the only member of their offense to reach base twice. He also struck out twice in the ballgame. On the season, he’s hitting a disappointing .249/.307/.441 with eight homers, 23 RBI and eight stolen bases through his first 231 plate appearances.

Butler stays hot at the plate, extending his hit streak to nine games, including multiple hits in four of his last six. He knocked a single in the first inning, then took Hunter Brown deep for a solo homer to lead off the fourth, the only run the A’s could score on the day. Butler collected a third hit in the sixth. The 24-year-old outfielder is hitting .252/.309/.451 with eight homers, 26 runs scored, 23 RBI, and eight steals over 223 plate appearances.

Butler gets the nod over rookie sensation Jacob Wilson to face Astros ace Hunter Brown. He’s really heated up of late, batting .323 (10-for-31) with one homer, six RBI and two steals over his last seven games. It wouldn’t be surprising to see Butler and Wilson splitting time as the top-of-the-order table-setter moving forward.

It appears to be a planned day off for Butler after making seven consecutive outfield starts for the Athletics. He’s batted .194 (6-for-31) with one homer and one steal during that span and is hitting .176 with three big flies over his past 15 games. It’ll be Jacob Wilson continuing to lead off against left-handers and he’s gotten some additional opportunities of late against right-handed pitching.

Butler had led off in 33 of his 34 starts prior to today. Moving Jacob Wilson up to that spot made sense, but it was jarring to see Butler all the way down to sixth versus a right-hander; there wasn’t any reason for him to be hitting behind Miguel Andujar or JJ Bleday. We wouldn’t expect Butler to hit so low for very long.

It’s been a bit of a slow start for Butler, who is slashing just .250/.317/.417 on the season, but he has six steals and continues to lead off regularly for the Athletics. Given that he now plays his home games in a minor league park that is going to get really hot in the next month or so, we may start to see a hot stretch from Butler coming up.

Butler put the game away for the A’s with a salami off Shawn Armstrong that turned a 3-1 game into a 7-1 rout. It’s the fifth homer of 2025 for Butler, and his RBI total bumps up from seven to 11 with the bases-clearing bomb. He ends the month with a slash of .258/.324/.432, and those numbers should keep climbing.

It’s an extremely rare day off for Butler, who has made 11 consecutive starts in right field dating back to April 13. Meanwhile, Langeliers has caught 10 of the last 12 games for the Athletics during that span. It’ll be rookie shortstop Jacob Wilson bumping up to occupy the leadoff spot in place of Butler. Brent Rooker heads out to right field and Jhonny Pereda will handle the catching duties.

Butler drew a walk to lead off the bottom of the first and stole second before he was left stranded. He later took Patrick Corbin deep for a solo homer in the third, a 106 mph drive to center field. The 24-year-old outfielder is enjoying a solid start to the season, hitting .279/.374/.442 with three homers and five steals across 99 plate appearances.

Butler began the game with a double off of Davis Martin and raced around to score the game’s first run on an RBI double by Jacob Wilson. The dynamic 24-year-old outfielder then clobbered a first-pitch cutter from Martin for a 414-foot (107.0 mph EV) solo shot in the fifth inning that extended the A’s lead to 2-0. With his 2-for-5 afternoon, Butler is now slashing .296/.390/.451 to go along with a pair of homers, five RBI and four stolen bases.

This appears to just be a day of maintenance for Butler. With the 24-year-old taking a seat, Jacob Wilson will hit leadoff for the first time. Brent Rooker will get the start in right field, with Shea Langeliers the designated hitter and Jhonny Pereda catching.
