Burrows struck out six and walked one. For all of his success, he got just seven whiffs, five of which came on the changeup he threw 28 times in the 98-pitch outing. Burrows’ longest career start moved him to 2-4 with a 5.04 ERA and a 42/14 K/BB in 44 2/3 innings. He’ll face the Mariners at home next week.

Burrows ran into trouble in the third inning after opening the game with back-to-back scoreless frames. After walking Carlos Navárez to start the inning, Burrows would then allow a single to Caleb Durbin to put runners on the corners with no outs. In the following at-bat, Burrows would leave a curveball over the lower-middle of the plate, which Jaren Duran blasted 425 feet into the right field stands to put the Red Sox up 3-1. Burrows wouldn’t allow another run in the game, but the damage had been done. Despite bouncing back to fire three straight scoreless innings before being pulled after the sixth inning, the Astros were unable to mount any offensive attack, putting Burrows in line for his fourth loss of the season. Burrows has a tall task ahead of him in his next start, which is scheduled for Wednesday against the Dodgers.

This would have been a nice night for Burrows in another park, but he gave up homers of 363 and 357 feet. Statcast said the first would have left 12 ballparks and the second was only a homer in Daikin. Burrows still did bring his ERA down to 6.25. He’ll probably next face the Orioles on Thursday, unless the Astros want to push him back to Friday against the Red Sox.

It looked like this was going to be a breakthrough day for Burrows; he retired the first 14 batters he faced, striking out half of them, before everything unraveled with two outs in the fifth. Five batters in a row reached on three singles and two walks, necessitating his removal. Burrows had a 36 percent CSW, and he allowed just three hard-hit balls today. His ERA now stands at 6.75 as he prepares to face the Yankees next weekend.

Burrows gave up a three-run homer to Josh Naylor in the first and two-run homer to Naylor in the third, but the Astros needed some innings from him, and he became the first Houston starter to get through six since March 31. He wound up generating 17 whiffs on 58 swings, and in spite of the two homers, the average exit velocity against him was just 86.5 mph. He’ll take a 6.65 ERA into his start against the Cardinals this weekend.

After a scoreless first inning, Burrows gave up a run on two hits and a walk in the second. Willi Castro later got to him with a two-run blast in the fourth. He recorded the first out in the sixth and gave up a single that would end his day at 87 pitches. Burrows scattered eight hits and one walk while striking out three batters. The 26-year-old right-hander is currently in line for a start against the Mariners in Seattle on Monday.

Burrows threw first-pitch strikes to 17 of 24 batters today and wound up generating 14 whiffs on 41 swings. The Angels got to him pretty good his first time out last week, but he tweaked things today by throwing 22 curves and only four sliders. In his first start, it was the complete opposite; he threw 28 sliders and seven curves while giving up five runs. Burrows will make his next start in Colorado versus the Rockies. Since Coors Field usually isn’t a big factor in April, he rates as a decent play in that one.

Burrows allowed a leadoff double to Zach Neto to begin this one, and gave up a single to Mike Trout on the next at-bat. A double play by Nolan Schanuel on the following AB scored Neto from third, but Burrows was able to end the inning with a swinging strikeout of Jorge Soler. Burrows would again run into trouble in the second inning, as a walk to Yoán Moncada and a Jo Adell single served as the prelude to a three-run homer by Josh Lowe, while a Mike Trout solo blast in the fifth would be the last run Burrows surrendered on the evening. Burrows allowed the leadoff runner to reach base in each of the six innings he appeared in, which inevitably made for a tough outing. We’ll see if he can get right in his next start on Wednesday against the Red Sox.

Espada added that Spencer Arrighetti will open the season back at Triple-A Sugar Land before being an option once they expand to a six-man rotation. It’ll be Cristian Javier and Tatsuya Imai taking the ball over the weekend against the Angels before Lance McCullers Jr. starts Monday’s series opener against the Red Sox.

He’ll follow Hunter Brown who draws the Opening Day assignment for the Astros. The rest of the rotation has yet to be announced, though Tatsuya Imai will certainly be in there somewhere. Burrows had a brilliant spring, allowing just three runs while posting a 17/6 K/BB ratio over 18 innings of work.

Burrows told reporters afterwards that he’s fine after being struck by a 91.9 mph grounder from Mets infielder Jorge Polanco during the sixth inning of Saturday’s spring start. The 26-year-old will open the regular season as part of Houston’s five-man rotation after allowing just three runs with a 17/6 K/BB ratio across 18 innings of work this spring.

It appears to be a precautionary exit after Burrows was struck in the sixth inning by a 91.9 mph ground ball from Mets infielder Jorge Polanco in the lower left leg. The 26-year-old righty was at 77 pitches (54 strikes) already and left the contest after allowing one run on seven hits with two strikeouts. He was charged with two additional runs following his departure. There should be a definitive update on his status at some point after he undergoes further evaluation.

The 26-year-old right-hander punched out five batters on the evening while issuing a pair of walks. He’s now up to 12 2/3 innings of scoreless baseball this spring while registering a 0.95 WHIP and a 15/6 K/BB ratio. He’s also creeping up fantasy draft boards, so if you were planning on trying to sneak him through in the later rounds of your upcoming drafts, you may want to bump him up a round or two.

Burrows has yet to allow a run in 8 2/3 innings this spring, and he posted an impressive 32 percent whiff rate and 33 percent CSW in this one. He threw 61 percent strikes overall and got four whiffs on seven swings against his revamped slider. The pitch is over two mph harder this year, with the idea of allowing it to be a more dynamic whiff pitch. He’s also relying on the sinker to righties far more than his four-seamer, which is a nice change for him. Burrows has all the makings of a breakout this year.

Brown highlighted the newly-acquired pitching prospect as an “upside play” that they feel can be part of their rotation. The 26-year-old should have a relatively clear path to a rotation spot with a strong showing in spring training after compiling a serviceable 3.94 ERA — 4.00 FIP — 1.24 WHIP and 97/31 K/BB ratio across 96 innings over 23 appearances (19 starts) for the Pirates this past season. The addition of a two-seamer should theoretically help him neutralize left-handed batters after leaning mostly on his fastball and changeup combo against southpaws while shelving his slider almost entirely. At the bare minimum, Burrows is an interesting late-round lottery ticket for fantasy managers in deeper leagues on the chance that he makes a leap in the strikeout department working with Houston’s pitching development engine.

Burrows heads to the Astros with Houston giving up Anderson Brito and Jacob Melton heading to Tampa Bay. The right-hander was solid in 96 innings over 23 appearances — 19 of those starts — with a 3.94 ERA and 97/31 K/BB ratio along with a 1.24 WHIP. He should be a backend starter for Houston to open 2026.

The framework of the finalized deal is the same that was reported earlier on Friday. Mike Burrows will be heading from the Pirates to the Astros, Brandon Lowe, Jake Mangum and Mason Montgomery will go from the Rays to the Pirates while Jacob Melton and Anderson Brito will go from the Astros to the Rays. The Astros have been inquiring on Burrows for a while now and was an obvious target of theirs to upgrade their starting rotation. The 26-year-old right-hander posted a 3.94 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and a 97/31 K/BB ratio over 96 innings in 23 appearances (19 starts) for the Pirates in 2025.

The Astros are looking to use offseason trades to acquire young starting pitchers and have also been linked to Shane Baz and Connelly Early. Burrow is 26 years old and coming off a decent season with the Pirates, in which he posted a 3.94 ERA in 96 innings with a 24 percent strikeout rate. Burrow has decent velocity on his fastball with decent shape and a changeup that eats up left-handed hitters. His slider has flashed the ability to get swinging strikes against righties, so there is a path here for him to become an interesting starter if he can develop that slider a bit more.

Imagine getting this kind of run support from the Pirates offense and still not being allowed to go for a win. Because of management like this, getting pulled after just 74 pitches, Burrows is just 2-4 with a 3.93 ERA in 19 starts and three relief appearances. Carmen Mlodzinski got the win today after throwing three scoreless innings as Burrows’ replacement. Burrows should pitch again versus the Braves next weekend.

Burros struck out six and only handed out one free pass. The 25-year-old rookie righty has allowed three earned runs or fewer in six consecutive starts dating back to August 16. He’ll square off against the Athletics next weekend at PNC Park.

Burrows was lifted after 56 pitches because he was due to work in tandem with Braxton Ashcraft tonight. It’s the fourth straight outing in which he’s been workload limited; he’s allowed just two runs over 13 innings over the four appearances. He’ll probably pitch again, either as a starter or a reliever, Sunday against the Nationals.

Burrows gave the Pirates four shutout frames, scattering two hits and one walk while striking out five batters. His day would be done after the fourth at 57 pitches in what’s likely some load management for the 25-year-old right-hander. Burrows will take a 4.23 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and a 78/28 K/BB ratio across 76 2/3 innings into a start against the Cardinals in St. Louis on Thursday.

Burrows held the Cubs scoreless through three innings before a walk and two hits brought a run in to score in the fourth. He’d walk another batter before escaping a bases-loaded jam. Burrows tossed one more scoreless frame, ending his day with four strikeouts over five innings. The 25-year-old right-hander will take a 4.46 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, and a 73/27 K/BB ratio across 72 2/3 innings into a start against the Rockies in Pittsburgh on Friday.

Burrows allowed just three hits and one walk on the day. Unfortunately, they all came in a five-batter sequence in the fourth that concluded with a Miguel Andujar homer. Burrows struck out six, so even if it took a toll on his 4.66 ERA, it really was a solid performance from him. He’ll face the Cubs next weekend.

That got him charged with a loss, of course. Burrows, who gave up just one homer in five turns last month, is 1-4 even though he’s allowed two runs or fewer in eight of his 13 starts. Unless the Pirates bring up a spot starter this while in the midst of a long string of games this week, Burrows will make his next start Sunday against the Reds.

He gave up only three hits, all of which were singles. Burrows has lowered his ERA from 4.83 to 3.88 by allowing three runs over 17 innings in his last three starts. He’s still not recommended in mixed leagues, but he’s showing he’s someone who can be penciled into the Pirates’ 2026 rotation. He’ll face the Giants again next week.

Burrows was on point in this one. He was picking off edges left and right with all four of his pitches and practically didn’t make a single mistake. Each of those four pitches also forced multiple swings-and-misses and led him to his best start in weeks. Once in a while, he flashes serious upside and has been able to rack up strikeouts in bunches when everything is working. He’s scheduled to face the Giants next time out.

Burrows had allowed just one baserunner through four scoreless innings before running into some trouble in the fifth. The White Sox brought a pair of runs in to score on two base hits and a double. Burrows would get out of the inning and end his day at 76 pitches with six strikeouts. The 25-year-old right-hander will carry a 4.70 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, and a 48/19 K/BB ratio across 46 innings into a start against the Diamondbacks in Pittsburgh on Friday.

Burrows pitched a scoreless first and got the first batter of the second, but that was followed by a walk, a HBP, a three-run homer, a triple, an infield single, a walk and another single, at which point Burrows was finally lifted. Burrows came into the day with a 3.63 ERA in nine outings, so one ugly start shouldn’t cost him his spot. This one, though, was brutal enough that his ERA is all of the way up to 4.82 now.

Burrows did walk four, but he was able to escape his jams. What he wasn’t able to escape was Pittsburgh putting up a goose egg, so his impressive start comes without a win. Still, this was a positive development that follows an impressive — but short — outing against the Mets, and it helps lower his ERA to 3.63. Intriguing. Burrows will be back on the bump Friday against the Twins.
