The expectation had already been that Burr would miss the remainder of the season due to his right rotator cuff strain after he was placed directly on the 60-day injured list last week, but now it’s official. No timetable from the Jays yet on how long his recovery will take.

You know it’s bad when the team skips over the 15-day injured list and places a player directly onto the 60-day IL. Burr suffered the injury during Wednesday’s outing against the White Sox. It sounds like he may be shelved for the remainder of the regular season, though technically he would be eligible to return in mid-September. Tommy Nance was promoted from Triple-A Buffalo to take his place in the Jays’ bullpen.

Burr will undergo an MRI later this week in Toronto to determine the extent of the injury. It feels like a virtual lock that he’ll wind up back on the injured list. The 31-year-old was lifted from his second appearance of the season after recording only two outs. He missed the first three months of the year with shoulder inflammation.
