Blewett has accepted the assignment, though he’ll still become a minor league free agent at season’s end. The 29-year-old had a 5.48 ERA in 44 1/3 innings for the Twins, Braves and Orioles this season.

Blewett will now hit the waiver wire, and more than likely will hit free agency. The 29-year-old has been out of action since the middle of July with discomfort in his right elbow, and he’ll be looking for a new organization for 2026.

There hasn’t been any real news on Blewett since he went on the IL with elbow discomfort on July 13. He’ll be eligible to return on Sept. 11, but there’s nothing to suggest he’ll be ready then.

No word yet on the severity of the issue, which will determine how much time Blewett misses. The well-traveled 29-year-old has operated in middle relief this season for Baltimore, making 13 appearances.

Blewett was designated for assignment by Atlanta on Thursday, and it didn’t take long for a trade to be worked out. The 29-year-old gives Baltimore some middle-relief help, although it can be argued how much he’ll help based on his previous experience.

It’s too easy to say that Blewett blew it for the Braves on Thursday afternoon, but he was responsible for the first five runs that scored during the Diamondbacks’ seven-run uprising in the ninth inning to steal victory from the jaws of defeat. Blewett becomes a scapegoat for the brutal implosion and will be replaced in the Braves’ bullpen by Craig Kimbrel on Friday.

Kingery hasn’t appeared in a big-league contest since the 2022 season. The 31-year-old has been summoned to join the Angels’ bench mix after the club severed ties with veteran Tim Anderson. He’s put up some big numbers this season in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League at the Triple-A level, but he’s unlikely to play enough to make any sort of impact for fantasy purposes.

It’ll be Blewett’s first big-league start after 21 relief appearances. He threw 43 pitches over 2 2/3 innings in his last outing for the Orioles four days ago. Perhaps he could throw up to three innings tonight before the Braves call to the pen, perhaps for Nathan Wiles.

The Orioles had designated Blewett for assignment on Saturday, so they were willing to flip him for anything that they could get at this stage. The 29-year-old hurler will add some extra bullpen depth for the Braves. The Braves designated José Suarez for assignment in a corresponding move.

Blewett was DFA’d Saturday after allowing one run and posting a 5/0 K/BB in 4 2/3 innings for Minnesota. He’s out of options, so he’ll presumably join the major league roster prior to Tuesday’s game. The Orioles could send down Colin Selby to make room.

He has his chance, you know, and he... well, wait, Blewett actually allowed just one run and had a 5/0 K/BB in 4 2/3 innings for the Twins. In fact, he has a 1.80 ERA in 25 innings for the Twins since his organizational debut last year. It’s easy to imagine someone picking him up off waivers.
