Bernabel came off the bench during Friday’s series opener after being held out of the lineup for two straight contests. He’s back at first base and batting second on Saturday evening after being struck in the face by an errant throw during pregame infield work earlier this week. Cooling Bernabel? The rookie infielder has gone just 1-for-8 over his last two games following a scorching-hot 14-for-28 start with three homers and eight RBI in his first seven contests at the big-league level. He’s shown enough to continue playing everyday at the highest level, but he was never going to sustain his initial hot streak for much longer.

Bernabel has been one of the hottest hitters in baseball over the past week since arriving in the big leagues, hitting .500 (14-for-28) with three homers and eight RBI through seven contests. The 23-year-old rookie won’t sustain this stratospheric level of play for much longer. However, he’s done enough to prove he should play every single day for the remainder of the season in Colorado, which gives him some appeal for fantasy purposes.

Bernabel was just a double shy of hitting for the cycle against the Pirates on Friday. The 23-year-old infielder has three home runs in six major league games and is hitting .458 with a 1.480 OPS and seven RBI. Bernabel wasn’t exactly known for his power with a .450 SLG at Triple-A this year, but he’s certainly swinging a hot bat for the Rockies so far.

Bernabel took a second-inning pitch from Tomoyuki Sugano and hit it 385 feet for his first career MLB home run. The 23-year-old hit .301/.356/.450 with eight homers and five steals in 75 games in Triple-A this season and figures to be the regular third baseman for Colorado with Ryan McMahon in New York. At least until Ryan Ritter (finger) is ready to come off the IL.
