One of the fastest-rising prospects in dynasty leagues, Florentino’s rapid ascent has continued at Low-A following a dominant 29-game run in the Rookie-level Florida Complex League to open the season. The 18-year-old prodigy offers a tantalizing blend of plus raw power, above-average athleticism and decent plate skills — the kind of toolset that screams long-term fantasy relevance. He’s batting .283 with seven homers and 16 steals in 28 games as one of the youngest hitters in the pitcher-friendly Florida State League.

The 27-year-old right-hander scattered three hits and two walks on the impressive afternoon. Both of the walks that he issued came to the final two hitters that he faced before turning the ball over to the bullpen in the sixth inning. That was also the only time the Angels put two runners on base against him in the game. Cabrera piled up 18 swings and misses on 87 pitches on the day — 11 of those on his curveball alone — while registering a terrific CSW of 36 percent. He’ll look to replicate this fine effort as he brings a 4.73 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and a 43/16 K/BB ratio (40 innings) into Saturday’s tilt against the Giants.

All three runs scored on a Miguel Amaya homer to left that Kyle Stowers got his glove on but couldn’t quite catch. Cabrera matched his season high with seven strikeouts and walked only one. He’s issued a total of three walks in his last three starts, which is a pretty stellar run for him. Still, there’s little reason to consider him in fantasy leagues while he’s in such a bad situation in Miami. He’ll face the Angels next.

The Marlins don’t believe that it will require a trip to the injured list, but it doesn’t sound like Cabrera is going to start at any point during their weekend series against the Rays. It’s possible he could jump back into the rotation for next week’s series against the Cubs. Stay tuned.

Andrew Vaughn’s first-inning homer was the only damage. Cabrera’s velocity was down some, and he struck out just two, which would typically be bad sign for him, but he was facing a dreadful lineup that didn’t even have Luis Robert Jr. available tonight. He’ll face the Rays next time out.

Cabrera struck out four and walked one on the day while posting a 17 percent whiff rate and 29 percent CSW. The lack of whiffs is a bit concerning, but Cabrera had a 60 percent zone rate on his sinker, which is nice to see. He only threw his slider 11 times after relying on it as a primary offering when he first came off the IL, so we’re still seeing Cabrera shift around his pitch mix a bit. He failed to command the curve and changeup in the zone, but he got the outs when he needed to and can be used as a streamer against the White Sox next week.

This went exactly how it was supposed to go, with all due respect to Cabrera. The right-hander threw just 57-of-97 pitches for strikes, and gave up runs in four of his five innings he pitched in. That sees his ERA rise to 7.23, while two strikeouts and three walks push his K/BB to 20/11 over four starts and 18 2/3 innings. He’ll try and improve those numbers next weekend against the Athletics.

Cabrera allowed five hits, walked two and struck out seven while regularly pitching in the high-90s tonight. It’s not at all likely that this is the year he harnesses his plus stuff and becomes an above average starter, but there’s always the chance. Right now, he has a 6.14 ERA through three turns. He’ll take on the Dodgers next.

Cabrera gave up a pair of runs in the first and another two runs in the fifth, with another allowed in the third between those shaky innings. The 27-year-old was able to strike out six, but the command was off as seen in three free passes and 56-of-88 pitches landing for strikes. He’ll try and lower his 6.52 ERA in a start against the Reds at home next week.
