Something happened to Justin Topa with two outs in the ninth, possibly a leg injury, so Cabrera stepped in. He finished off a walk of Carter Jensen and then retired Mike Yastrzemski to end the game. It’s the journeyman’s sixth career save. He had one for the Cardinals in each of 2019, ’20 and ’22 and two for the Blue Jays last year.

The 28-year-old left-hander refused an outright assignment to Triple-A Indianapolis from the Pirates and opted to explore the free agent market instead. He’ll add extra bullpen depth for the Twins at the Triple-A level and it shouldn’t take him long to earn an opportunity at the big league level.

Cabrera did a decent job in nine appearances with the Pirates, posting a 4.91 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and a 7/1 K/BB ratio over 11 innings of work. The 28-year-old southpaw will continue to serve as extra bullpen depth at the Triple-A level for the time being.

Cabrera has been booted from Pittsburgh’s 40-man roster to make room for starter Johan Oviedo to return from the 60-day injured list for his season debut. The 28-year-old refused his outright assignment to Triple-A Iowa after he was designated for assignment by the Cubs earlier in the week. Cabrera has posted a troublesome 6.35 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and a 15/6 K/BB ratio over 17 innings between the Cubs and Mets this season. He’ll give Pirates’ skipper Don Kelly another option to deploy from the left side out of his bullpen.

Cabrera passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment over the weekend. The 28-year-old lefty compiled a calamitous 8.68 ERA across 9 1/3 innings (nine appearances) for the Cubs. He’ll presumably stick around as emergency organizational depth, but does have the ability to refuse the outright assignment and elect free agency.

The 28-year-old southpaw posted a disastrous 8.68 ERA across 9 1/3 innings (nine appearances). He figures to pass through waivers unclaimed and wind up back in the free agent pool.

The deal, which had been reported earlier in the week, is now official. No word yet on the financials of the deal. The 28-year-old southpaw was designated for assignment by the Mets after allowing three runs over 7 2/3 innings across six appearances. He’ll work in middle relief for the Cubs. Brooks Kriske was designated for assignment in a corresponding move on Thursday.

Cabrera had a 3.59 ERA in 69 appearances for the Blue Jays last season, but he was then cut and had to settle for a minor league deal over the winter. He arrives from Syracuse having given up seven runs in eight innings, though most of those came in his first three appearances. The Mets will see if he can help fill A.J. Minter’s shoes or at least Danny Young’s.
