Campero is battling a right ankle sprain and isn’t going to make it back in time before the end of the season, so the Angels will find a better way to utilize his spot on the 40-man roster. The 27-year-old outfielder finishes the season hitting .172/.273/.345 with three homers, eight RBI, four stolen bases and a 14/5 K/BB ratio in 66 plate appearances for the Halos.

Campero suffered the injury when his foot got stuck in the wall while trying to rob a home run from Max Muncy in the eighth inning on Monday night. Fortunately, he suffered only an ankle sprain in the process, though he’s still going to miss a couple of weeks at a minimum. Niko Kavadas was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake in a corresponding move on Tuesday.

Campero took Shane Smith deep for just the second homer of the season for the 27-year-old. He remains as off the fantasy radar as any player who is active in the majors. That may seem mean. It’s just the honest truth. Congrats on the homer, however.

The 27-year-old outfielder has appeared in five games for the Halos this season, hitting .200 (2-for-10) with zero RBI, one run scored, one stolen base and a 2/2 K/BB ratio. He’ll add depth in the Angels’ outfield while Jorge Soler (back) is shelved.

The 27-year-old had already been at Triple-A Salt Lake on a minor league rehab assignment and now he’ll stay there for a bit longer while he rounds back into game shape. Campero should get another opportunity with the Halos before the summer is through.

Campero left Tuesday’s game against the Blue Jays after sustaining the injury, then sat out each of the next two ballgames. Still no word on how long exactly the Angels expect him to be sidelined for. Matthew Lugo was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake in a corresponding move to take his place on the Angels’ roster.

It’ll be veteran slugger Jorge Soler making a rare appearance in right field on Wednesday night after Campero was lifted from Tuesday’s contest with left ankle irritation. It doesn’t sound like a serious concern at the moment. He’s presumably available off the bench, if needed, in an emergency situation.

Campero was 0-for-1 with a walk before being replaced in right field by Jo Adell to open the sixth inning. The 27-year-old outfielder appeared to suffer the injury on an awkward swing in the previous frame. He’s presumably day-to-day for now.
