Collins made Aaron Nola pay for a changeup that caught a bit too much of the plate that he yanked just beyond the right field fence. That put an exclamation point on a five-run first inning for the Brewers and they’d never look back in this one. Collins cooled off considerably towards the end of August and this was his first home run in nearly a month. Yet, it brought him back up to an .804 OPS as he tries to put the finishing touches on his Rookie of the Year case.

The Brewers had an 8-3 lead after the sixth inning but they squandered it as the Diamondbacks tied things up in the eighth. Not to worry though as they loaded the bases with a single and a pair of walks to open the ninth inning. Sal Felick then flew out to shallow center field for the first out in the frame, bringing Collins to the dish. He got an 0-1 sinker from Kyle Backhus and hit it deep enough to right field to plate pinch-runner Brandon Lockridge with the winning run, sending the Brewers’ home faithful into a frenzy. The 28-year-old outfielder finished the night 0-for-3 with a walk and a run scored and is now hitting .270/.368/.421 with eight homers, 44 RBI and 15 stolen bases in what has been an impressive rookie campaign.

The emerging front-runner for Rookie of the Year honors in the National League, Collins led off the fourth inning with a double and scored on a sacrifice bunt off the bat of Andrew Vaughn. He then led off the sixth inning with a triple off of Chase Shugart and scored on a run-scoring single by William Contreras. With his two-hit attack, the 28-year-old outfielder is now slashing .297/.395/.458 with eight homers, 40 RBI and 13 stolen bases across his first 321 plate appearances.

Collins’ home run was his eighth of the year. The 28-year-old outfielder hit a walk-off home run off Edwin Diaz in the ninth inning to break a 6-6 tie. Collins is more known for his average than his power. He’s hitting .295 with an .843 OPS and 40 RBI on the year.

Collins tripled off of Joey Wentz with one out in the sixth inning and scored on an RBI single off the bat of Brice Turang. He then helped to put the game out of reach with a two-out, two-run single in the seventh that extended the Brewers’ advantage to 7-1. With his two-hit night, the 28-year-old outfielder is now hitting an impressive .285/.385/.427 with seven homers, 37 RBI and 12 stolen bases in his first 298 plate appearances with the Brewers.

Collins was just named NL Rookie of the Month for July earlier today. That’s after Jacob Misiorowski won in June. Really, the Brewers should have all four of those awards, as Chad Patrick was more valuable than Luisangel Acuña in April (2.45 ERA in 25 2/3 IP) and Drake Baldwin in May (3.32 ERA in 38 IP). Collins is currently sitting at .281/.384/.418 with seven homers and 12 steals as a 27-year-old rookie (though he turned 28 last month). His exit velocity numbers are pretty average, and we’re not sure he’s a starter for the long haul, but he has a great approach both at the plate and in the field and he might continue to outperform his tools.

It appears to be nothing more than a routine night off for the 28-year-old outfielder. Christian Yelich will cover left field in his absence while William Contreras functions as the team’s designated hitter against Mitchell Parker and the Nationals in Washington D.C.

Collins strolled to the dish with the bases loaded and the score tied in the sixth inning and he smacked a two-run single to center that put the Brewers ahead to stay. With his two-hit afternoon, the 27-year-old outfielder is now hitting .268/.371/.405 to go along with six homers, 26 RBI and 11 stolen bases through his first 242 plate appearances with the Brewers this season.

Collins also drew a walk. The 27-year-old is now up to six homers and seven stolen bases on the season, and has looked the part as of late with a slash of .297/.395/.405. It’s hard to count on him being fantasy-relevant, but those looking for a hot bat can do worse.

What a revelation Collins has been in batting .270/.375/.423 in 194 plate appearances for the Brewers. His exit velocity numbers aren’t very good, and the power production probably won’t be there to keep him relevant in mixed leagues for long. He could remain solid from an OBP standpoint, though, and he’s been very good defensively in left field.

It appears to be just a routine day off for the 27-year-old outfielder. Jake Bauers will start in his place in left field and will bat seventh for the Brewers against Antonio Senzatela and the Rockies on Saturday afternoon in Milwaukee.

Collins walloped a 388-foot (99.9 mph EV) two-run shot off of Ben Brown in the second inning that gave the Brewers an early 2-0 advantage. It would be short lived though. He also doubled to lead off the fourth inning, but never advanced past second base. With his two-hit night, the 27-year-old outfielder is now hitting .242/.349/.375 with three homers, 13 RBI and seven stolen bases in his first 150 plate appearances with the Brewers.

Collins was hit by a pitch in the early stages of Wednesday’s contest and tried to gut it out for a couple frames before being lifted for Vinny Capra at second base. He’ll presumably head for X-rays to rule out any fractures.
