Campbell will compete for a spot in Arizona’s bullpen next spring after getting lit up to the tune of an inflated 11.30 ERA (6.36 FIP) across 14 1/43 innings over 14 appearances for the Red Sox over the past two seasons. The 28-year-old righty was a notable relief prospect a couple years ago with the Mariners but hasn’t quite panned out at the highest level.

Jackson hit .310/.402/.630 with 18 homers in 60 games as a Junior at Arizona State before the Angels drafted him in the eighth round this year. Time will tell if he turns out to be a legitimate prospect, but the Red Sox were at least able to get a little something for a player they didn’t want to continue to carry on the 40-man. Doing the trade now means the team has room to make a pick in Wednesday’s Rule 5 draft if it so desires.
