Curtiss was the choice to close tonight despite giving up four earned runs without retiring a batter in his previous appearance. It’s his third career save since debuting in 2017. He has a 3.86 ERA and a 21/5 K/BB in 35 innings this season.

The Diamondbacks had Curtiss working in a tie game in the ninth and then stuck with him after scoring three runs in the top of the 10th. It was a rather rare high-leverage situation for the 32-year-old journeyman; he’s totaled two saves and nine holds in 119 major league appearances since debuting with the Twins in 2017.

The 32-year-old hurler has spent the entire season to date at Triple-A Reno where he has compiled a 6.34 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and a 28/9 K/BB ratio over 32 2/3 frames. He’ll add a fresh arm to a depleted Diamondbacks’ bullpen for at least a day or two.
