With Bo Bichette (knee) banged up, the Blue Jays needed an extra infielder, so Clase will head down to make room. Even though Clase was playing more often than Myles Straw, Straw has no minor league options left, which meant he had to remain on the roster. Clase is hitting .210/.288/.300 in 112 plate appearances this year with two home runs and three steals.

The Blue Jays will be without Clase and Myles Straw (knee) due to injury, at least to begin the game. Clase is day-to-day, and Davis Schneider will be the starting left fielder.

Clase tied the game off Ryan Helsley in the ninth, and the Jays went on to win after Alejando Kirk doubled in the automatic runner in the 10th. Clase’s homer was his first of the year. He was 0-for-14 in his previous four games coming into the night, and he hadn’t driven in a run since May 22. He’s likely to continue logging plenty time in center until Daulton Varsho returns, though it sounds like Varsho could be back from his hamstring strain a little earlier than originally thought.

Clase joins Toronto’s crowded corner outfield mix after hitting .315 with 15 steals in 27 games this season for Triple-A Buffalo. The 22-year-old is unlikely to garner enough playing time to make a significant impact for fantasy purposes.

Clase gives Toronto an extra bench bat for Sunday’s twin bill in New York. The 22-year-old outfielder has posted a strong .852 OPS with 13 steals in 22 games this season for Triple-A Buffalo. He’ll presumably head back to the minors following Sunday’s nightcap.

It’s been a really strong start for Clase, who is slashing .382/.523/.411 in 34 at-bats. He has walked nine times and struck out seven on the season, which has led to his superb on-base percentage, and he’s making those trips on the bases count with six steals. The issue is that he’s currently blocked by Myles Straw and Daulton Varsho (shoulder) is nearing a return to Toronto as well, which will make it hard for Clase to find a spot on the MLB roster.
