Castillo heads back to the Big Apple where he made 16 relief appearances this past season. The 29-year-old southpaw bounced around between several clubs last year, making appearances for the Mets, Orioles, Mariners and Diamondbacks. He should compete for a bullpen spot next spring.

Castillo heads to Baltimore’s injury-ravaged relief mix for the final two weeks of the season after a brief stint with the Mariners where he made three scoreless appearances. The 29-year-old lefty posted an encouraging 2.35 ERA across 15 1/3 innings (16 appearances) earlier this year for the Mets after getting lit up in a handful of early-season outings with the Diamondbacks.

The 29-year-old southpaw was claimed off of waivers from the Mets last week. He appeared in three games during his time with the M’s, hurling three scoreless innings with a 1/2 K/BB ratio. He’s talented enough that he may once again attract interest on waivers from teams in need of bullpen depth.

Castillo was cut loose from New York’s relief mix last week after pitching to a respectable 2.38 ERA across 11 1/3 innings over 13 appearances. The 29-year-old southpaw has the option to elect free agency or wait around for another shot with the Mets.

Castillo gets the boot from the active roster to make room for Brandon Waddell. The veteran southpaw will hit the waiver wire, and if he goes unclaimed, he can elect free agency or report back to Triple-A Syracuse.

Castillo is up to be a cog in the bullpen with Justin Martinez (shoulder) placed on the injured list. The veteran southpaw will likely be an option in the middle innings against a lefty-heavy portion of a lineup.
