Nothing has changed in the prognosis for the 24-year-old infielder — who is out for the next six-to-eight weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a left forearm fracture — this was done to free up a spot on the team’s 40-man roster for the addition of Connor Joe on Friday. Callihan will be shut down for roughly two months before resuming baseball activities after suffering a gruesome-looking left forearm fracture during Monday’s game against the Braves. The 24-year-old rookie underwent surgery on Tuesday and is facing an extended absence, but it’s not expected to be a season-ending procedure. There’s a chance he’s able to make it back to Cincinnati at some point in the final two months of the season, barring any setbacks.

This didn’t look good. Callihan suffered what appeared to be a serious-looking left arm injury when he collided with the left-field wall while attempting to make a sliding catch during the bottom of the third inning. The positive news here is that he was able to walk off the field under his own power while holding his left arm. There should be an update on his status shortly.
