Daniel was hit around for five runs on seven hits in five innings last night in a start against the Giants. He does have a 3.52 ERA across 76 2/3 innings in Triple-A this season, so it’s very likely that he gets another shot with the Braves not contending this year.

Daniel walked four batters in the forgettable outing while punching out three. After navigating a scoreless first inning, the Giants used three walks, a double, triple, homer and two sacrifice flies to push four runs across in the second inning. He settled in afterwards, but the damage had already been done. The 28-year-old right-hander got just five whiffs on 92 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of 24 percent. We’ll see if he sticks around to start against the Royals in Kansas City on Wednesday or if perhaps Dane Dunning will get a shot.

Daniel came back out after the first rain delay in the third inning but not following the second in the fifth. He might have been done even if not for that second delay, as the Braves wouldn’t have expected him to approach 90-100 pitches after sitting around for over an hour. If he remains in the rotation, he’d probably face the Giants next Monday or Tuesday.

Daniel provides Atlanta’s injury-ravaged pitching mix with a spot starter for Sunday’s first-half against St. Louis. The 28-year-old righty has made one relief appearance this season in the majors. He’s posted a respectable 3.52 ERA across 76 2/3 innings (15 appearances, 14 starts) this season at the Triple-A level. He’s not a recommended streaming option for fantasy purposes on the road at Busch Stadium in his first start of the year.

Daniel provides the Braves with some extra long relief depth heading into Sunday’s series finale against the Diamondbacks. The 27-year-old hurler was acquired from the Angels last December and has yet to appear in the big leagues this season.
