Dillon Dingler tripled, doubled and scored twice in the Tigers’ 7-2 defeat of the Astros on Wednesday.

Dingler could have had an even bigger game in his second career start at DH; his 413-foot triple in the first would have been a homer in 17 ballparks and his 394-foot flyout in the fifth would have left 13. Dingler, who was behind Jake Rogers on the depth chart initially this season, is batting .274/.321/.432 and has probably been the AL’s second or third best catcher behind Cal Raleigh and maybe Alejandro Kirk.

After catching the last two days, Dillon Dingler is DHing for the Tigers against the Astros on Wednesday.

It’s Dingler’s second career game at DH after he was penciled in there for the first time on Aug. 9. The Tigers are finding his bat too valuable to take out of the lineup, especially against lefties, and this will be his 16th start in the team’s last 19 games.

Dillon Dinger is in the lineup for a second straight day game Monday against the Giants.

Those worried that Jake Rogers’ return would hurt Dingler’s value have to be relieved about how things have played out. Rogers did start his first game back from the IL, but Dingler has now started five of the last six games. He’s also working on an eight-game hitting streak that’s seen him go 12-for-30.

Dillon Dingler went 3-for-4 with a double against the Blue Jays on Sunday.

Dingler had three hits including a double in the win over the Blue Jays. The 26-year-old catcher is hitting .286 with a .765 OPS this year. While he’s established himself as a better hitter than Jake Rogers at this point, Dingler is still likely to lose some playing time when Rogers completes his rehab assignment. Rogers caught every pitch from Tarik Skubal during his Cy Young season in 2024 and is still considered the better defensive option.
