Duran scored two of the Rangers’ three runs in the win today. He now has a .440 lifetime average (22-for-50) against his original organization. The Rangers got him along with Josh Smith and a couple of others from the Yankees for Joey Gallo in 2021. Duran was starting at over Smith today, and he could be in line for more time at second base with Smith off to a really tough start. Duran has a .778 OPS in 65 plate appearances, compared to .523 in 98 plate appearances for Smith. Of course, both could play if Brandon Nimmo needs a little time off with his leg injury.

Over his last 10 games, Duran is hitting .276/.364/.379 with four RBI and three steals. Over that same timeframe, Josh Smith is hitting .216/.362/.270 with four RBI and one steal in 15 games, so it makes some sense for the Rangers to give Duran a few extra starts at second base to see if he can continue to give them solid production.

Duran smacked a one-out double off of Jacob Lopez in the third inning and scored the game’s first run on Brandon Nimmo’s RBI single. He then worked a one-out walk in the fifth, swiped second base and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Jake Burger. Duran also added a two-run single in the ninth to add some valuable insurance. For the season, the versatile 26-year-old is now slashing .250/.318/.375 to go along with one home run, four RBI and three stolen bases in 44 plate appearances.

Duran got the Rangers on the board in the fourth inning of this one, plating Danny Jansen with a one-out RBI single off of DL Hall. That would be the extent of their offense in the ballgame. The 26-year-old utilityman is hitting .222 (2-for-9) with a pair of RBI and a 3/4 K/BB ratio to open the spring season.

The 26-year-old utilityman had a brutal season offensively in 2025, slashing a cringe-inducing .224/.266/.293 with zero home runs, 14 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 219 plate appearances for the Rangers. He’ll continue to function in a super utility role for the Rangers in 2026 and can be safely ignored for fantasy purposes.

The double was a 108-mph, 378-foot rope that would have been a homer in nine ballparks. Duran went 5-for-6 in the series against the Yankees, raising his average from .156 to .198. He seemed destined to head back to Triple-A when Jake Burger is ready to be activated, but perhaps the Rangers could demote Alejandro Osuna instead.

Duran got the scoring started in the ballgame as he roped a two-out RBI double into right field off of Aaron Civale in the third inning. The versatile 26-year-old also drew a walk in the sixth inning and doubled with two outs in the eighth, but the Rangers were unable to cash him in either time. He has struggled in his limited action overall with the Rangers this season, going 6-for-40 (.150) with zero homers, two RBI and a 13/1 K/BB ratio.

The Rangers placed Kevin Pillar on the injured list yesterday with a strained lower back, so Duran will take his spot on the active roster. He was hitting .345/.390/.673 with four home runs and five steals in 14 games at Triple-A. He should operate as a utility player off the bench for the big league club.

Duran returns to the big leagues with veteran outfielder Kevin Pillar hitting the shelf with a back strain. The 25-year-old offers some versatility in a bench role, but he’s been a non-factor at the dish for the better part of the last two seasons.

Duran heads to the minors with star outfielder Wyatt Langford returning from the injured list for Sunday’s showdown against the Dodgers. It’s notable that rookie outfielder Dustin Harris wasn’t the corresponding move here as it appears the Rangers want to get a longer look at him in the big leagues.
