Duran allowed two hits but also struck out two to secure his 32nd save of the season. The 27-year-old also has a 2.06 ERA and has been, by far, the most impactful high-end closer traded at the trade deadline.

Duran was summoned in the ninth inning to close out the game against the Dodgers after the Phillies took a three-run lead in the top of the frame. He induced three straight ground outs to secure the win and lock down his 31st save of the season to go with a 1.88 ERA across 67 innings.

Duran’s fourth blown save extended things tonight, but the Phillies were able to score a run in the top of the 10th, after which David Robertson pitched a scoreless inning for his first save of the year. Duran now has seven wins, two of which have followed blown saves.

Duran went saveless in three appearances against the Royals as a Twin earlier this season, winding up with a win and a loss. He now has 14 saves in 18 appearances for the Phillies after collecting 16 in 49 appearances for Minnesota.

Duran came out firing in this one, slicing right through the heart of the Mets’ lineup. He punched out Juan Soto, Pete Alonso and Mark Vientos in succession — each on swinging third strikes — needing just 11 pitches to get the job done. Since joining the Phillies, Duran holds a 1.23 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and a 20/0 K/BB ratio over 14 2/3 innings while making good on 13 of his first 14 save chances.

Duran gave a leadoff single to Pete Alonso, and the Mets made the move to pinch-run for Alonso in the 1-0 game. Mark Vientos went on to double with one out, but Ronny Mauricio read it very poorly off the bat, costing him a chance to score. Duran then struck out Jeff McNeil and Francisco Alvarez to end the game. It probably ought to have been a blown save for Duran, but he improved to 12-for-13 with the Phillies and 28-for-31 overall.

Duran took the mound in the bottom of the ninth to close out the game against the Marlins with a two-run lead. He tossed a clean inning on 10 pitches, striking out the final batter to come away with his 27th save of the season and 11th with the Phillies.

The 27-year-old right-hander made it look easy in this one, getting Danny Jansen on a bouncer back to the mound, Andruw Monasterio on a fly ball to center and Sal Frelick on a swinging third strike to end it. On the season, the star closer now boasts a 1.92 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and a 67/18 K/BB ratio over 61 innings.

The Brewers must have had plans after the game, because they made Duran throw just six pitches; four of those for strikes. The 27-year-old has saved 25 games in 2025, and nine of those have come since being acquired at the deadline.

This was a great bounceback outing from Duran after his disastrous blown save against the Mets earlier this week where he allowed four straight hits without recording a single out and another last week against the Nationals. He threw four pitches harder than 101 mph and the Braves could not touch him. Continue to treat him like one of the best closers in the league.

Starling Marte, Pete Alonso, Brett Baty and Brandon Nimmo had the hits, and while all were singles, three were hit between 108 and 110 mph, with only Baty’s soft fly to left rating as a cheapy. Fortunately for Duran’s ERA, the Mets only needed the one run to end the game, or this one might have gone on for a while. It’s Duran’s second loss since joining the Phillies. He’s 7-for-8 in save chances for his new team and 23-for-26 overall.

Duran was summoned in the ninth inning to close out the game against the Nationals with a two-run lead. He worked around two hits, keeping the Nats off the board to secure the win and convert his 23rd save of the season.

Things began to spin out of control for Duran when Dylan Crews slapped a one-out double down the line. Then, Daylen Lile tied the game with a run-scoring single. Lile took second on the play, then decided to steal third like a madman. Luckily for him, JT Realmuto threw the ball away and he came home with the go-ahead run. It was Duran’s first blown save since June 15th, so don’t expect this to be much more than a bump in the road for the lights out closer.

Well, he sure seems healthy. The Phillies weren’t planning to use Duran, but their bullpen allowed three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, which forced their closer in to stop the bleeding. Duran retired both batters he faced, including one on a strikeout, to secure his 21st save of the season.

Duran avoided serious injury after a scary incident during Friday’s series opener against the Nationals when he had to be carted off the field after being struck in the right foot by a line drive. The Phillies might opt to give the hard-throwing 27-year-old closer a couple days off to rest and recover, but it appears he’ll avoid a trip to the injured list after X-rays came back negative for any fractures. It would be some combination of Orion Kerkering, Matt Strahm and David Robertson handling the closing duties if he’s unavailable this weekend.

It’s certainly an encouraging update after Duran had to be carted off the field after being drilled by a line drive during Friday’s appearance against the Nationals. It doesn’t necessarily mean that he’s out of the woods yet though as initial X-rays often don’t tell the entire story. He’ll head for additional testing. Look for the Phillies to update his status again before Saturday’s ballgame. Orion Kerkering and Matt Strahm would be next up if Duran winds up hitting the injured list. Veteran reliever David Robertson is the wild card here given his extensive closing experience.

Duran came on to work the ninth inning with the Phillies holding a four-run lead. On the fourth pitch that he threw, he was struck by a line drive (94.1 mph EV) off the bat of Paul DeJong and had to be carted off the field. Presumably, he’ll head for further evaluation and get imaging done to rule out any fractures. Look for the Phillies to provide an update on his status as soon as more information becomes available.

Duran’s save gives him 20 on the season. The 27-year-old right-hander continues to dominate opposing hitters since coming over to the Phillies in a trade with the Twins. Duran pitched around one hit to record the scoreless inning and lower his ERA to 1.86 this year.

Duran easily protected a one-run lead by getting a couple of groundouts and a strikeout. The Phillies have resisted using a true closer in recent years, but it sure seems like Duran is going to be left alone in that role. He’s an easy top-10 reliever.

The Phillies’ new closer was firing smoke in this one, averaging 102.1 mph on his fastball. He needed just 12 pitches (eight strikes) to dispatch of Kerry Carpenter on a ground ball to second, Spencer Torkelson on a bouncer to third and Riley Greene on strikes to end it. He gives an already deep and talented Phillies’ bullpen a true weapon in the ninth inning, making them a very dangerous club in the National League.

Duran was tasked with protecting a one-run lead after the Phillies scored twice in the home half of the eighth inning to take the lead. He made sure that it stood up, getting Colt Keith on a ground ball to short, Spencer Torkelson on a foul out to first and Riley Greene on a line drive to left to end it. He needed just four pitches (four strikes) to get the job done. He absolutely should be considered the top option for saves in what has historically been a mix-and-match bullpen in Philadelphia.

The trade is now official. Duran takes over as Philadelphia’s closer after converting 16 of 18 save opportunities to accompany a sparkling 2.01 ERA and 53/18 K/BB ratio across 49 1/3 innings (49 appearances) for the Twins this season. The flame-throwing 27-year-old, who remains under club control through 2027, fills a critical late-inning void left by former closer José Alvarado, who was handed an 80-game PED suspension in mid-May and is ineligible for the postseason. Duran’s arrival gives the Phillies a dominant ninth-inning presence as they prepare for a potential deep postseason run. Orion Kerkering and Matt Strahm will bump down to pure setup men, making them droppable in mixed leagues.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan adds that the Phillies are parting with right-hander Mick Abel and elite catching prospect Eduardo Tait in the deal — a blockbuster price tag. Abel impressed during his brief big-league stint this season, and Tait ranks among the premier backstops in the minors. The move was telegraphed the moment closer José Alvarado was hit with an 80-game PED suspension back in mid-May, ruling him out for the postseason. Duran gives Philadelphia a battle-tested stabilizer for the back end of their bullpen as they gear up for October.

The writing was on the wall for the Phillies when they lost closer José Alvarado back in mid-May to an 80-game PED suspension, which also eliminates him from postseason play. Duran provides Philadelphia with some much-needed stability at the back-end of their bullpen heading into the home stretch.

Duran came into a 3-3 game to begin the ninth and gave up a run on a walk to Abraham Toro, two steals from pinch-runner David Hamilton and then an RBI single to Roman Anthony. There still weren’t any outs at that point, but after Alex Bregman flied out, Anthony was caught stealing. Jarren Duran then walked and stole second, but Trevor Story flew out to end the inning. The Twins went on to score twice in the bottom of the ninth, so their closer got the win rather than the loss.

Duran didn’t allow a hit and picked up a strikeout without a walk. It’s the 16th save of the season for the 27-year-old, and in the process he lowered his ERA to a 1.90. The right-hander was shaky against the Dodgers in his last outing, but this was a reminder that he has the stuff — and the ability to apply that stuff — to be as good as any closer in baseball.
