A huge stunner, but it seems clear that Red Sox-Devers relationship had soured since the move off third base. Of course, he won’t be a third baseman in San Francisco, either, though perhaps he’ll play the position some until Matt Chapman comes off the IL. Devers is owed about $30 million per year through 2033, so the Red Sox could only expect so much in return here. Harrison, at least, has gotten quite a bit more interesting with his velocity up, and they’re taking some salary back with the injured Hicks, who still remains interesting as a fifth starter or setup man.

Devers grounded into double plays twice before sneaking a ball just over the Green Monster. He walked in his final plate appearance. Devers has 273 doubles, 12 triples and 215 homers in his career. 31 of his homers have come against the Yankees, which is seven more than he has against any other team.

Even Red Sox manager Alex Cora claimed he was sent aware of the injury and first found out about it when Devers failed to run out an infield grounder on Sunday. However, the Red Sox star claims he feeling better now and his groin feels better when running. It seems like this may be nothing to worry about.

Devers did his damage in the ninth inning, crushing a leadoff 393-foot (111.2 mph EV) solo shot off of Brent Headrick that extended the Red Sox’ advantage to 10-5. He was also hit by a pitch in the sixth inning and rode home on a three-run shot by Carlos Narvaez. The 28-year-old slugger is now slashing a healthy .283/.407/.522 with 14 homers and 57 RBI on the season.

Six Red Sox relievers combined to throw 6 2/3 scoreless innings after Walker Buehler was tossed in the third inning. Devers’ solo shot off Clay Holmes was his third homer in four games. That horrendous first week of the season is long in the rearview mirror now. Devers is hitting .289/.404/.517 on the season with nine home runs and 38 RBI. Any questions about the health of his shoulders can probably be put to bed.

Controversy and fan anger doesn’t seem to be taking any sort of toll on Devers. He’s 23-for-56 with four homers, 15 RBI and an 11/9 K/BB in his last 14 games, raising his OPS from .657 to .858.

McCaffrey adds that Red Sox CEO Sam Kennedy and president of baseball operations Craig Breslow also made the trip to Kansas City. She also notes that Henry, with manager Alex Cora present at the time, was the only one to speak with Devers. The sit down comes just a few days after the 28-year-old slugger publicly expressed his disagreement and frustration with the team, singling out Breslow specifically, for asking him to play first base in the wake of Triston Casas’ season-ending knee injury. It’s a highly unusual situation for a team owner to make an unplanned trip to speak with a player. Breslow told reporters late Friday that there was a “productive conversation” while refusing to elaborate any further. It’s in the best interest of the Red Sox to repair a seemingly fractured relationship with their most important hitter, and expedite his seemingly inevitable move to first base, so it’s a positive sign there’s a real effort being made on those fronts.

Devers vented his frustration with general manager Craig Breslow, telling reporters including Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic that he doesn’t understand why the team would want him to change positions again after they already asked him to do so during spring training. Perhaps he’s unaware that first baseman Triston Casas suffered a brutal season-ending knee injury and they don’t have any viable replacements. Regardless, this isn’t the type of comment that’s going to gain him any respect or admiration in the clubhouse or the front office.

Devers’ steal was his first of the year., and the homer off Jacob Latz was his first versus a left-hander. He now has six homers and 25 RBI in 39 games, and he leads the AL with 29 walks.

Cora added that he hasn’t had any conversations with Devers regarding a potential move from DH to first base in the wake of Triston Casas’ season-ending knee injury. He confirmed that the plan moving forward will be to stick with Romy Gonzalez and Abraham Toro at the cold corner. Unfortunately for fantasy managers, it doesn’t sound like the organization is considering at all the possibility of top prospects Roman Anthony or Marcelo Mayer coming up to fill the void.

Devers extended his hit streak to eight games with another multi-hit effort, collecting three hits for the second straight game. He put the Red Sox on the board with a base hit in the third and drove in a second run with a single in the seventh. The 28-year-old third baseman is hitting .256/.373/.451 with five homers and 23 RBI across 161 plate appearances.

Cora was adamant that he’s sticking with Devers at DH and will go with Romy Gonzalez and Abraham Toro at first base in the wake of Triston Casas’ season-ending knee injury. It’s a surprising development since Red Sox president of baseball operations Craig Breslow didn’t outright dismiss the possibility of Devers shifting to first base in his remarks to reporters just a few minutes prior. The Red Sox are likely going to make a move to shore up their first-base situation in the near future, but it certainly sounds like Cora is strongly against the idea of moving Devers out of the full-time DH role.

Devers had gone hitless in five straight games, but he again seemed to move past his timing issues today and raised his OPS from .657 to .722 between the two games.

It seemed that Devers was all fixed up two weeks ago, but he’s since gone 4-for-40 with one homer in 13 games. He has walked 12 times during the span, and he’s not nearly as lost as he was during the first week of the season. Still, it’s been quite the roller coaster season thus far; his two five-game hitless streaks this season are one more than he had totaled in his first eight seasons.

Devers put the first three runs of the game on the board with a three-run blast off Shane Smith in the fifth inning. He was later walked in the ninth inning. It was only the second homer for the 28-year-old third baseman. After a slow start, Devers is slashing .229/.343/.386 with 12 runs and 12 RBI across 99 plate appearances.
