Eflin hopes to have a normal offseason after spending the next few months recovering, but that’s not assured. The free-agent-to-be is probably going to have to settle for a one-year deal in the offseason after posting a 5.93 ERA in 14 starts this year.

Eflin is slated for a lumbar microdiscectomy. Between that and the 5.93 ERA in 14 starts this season, he’s likely going to have to take a one-year deal in free agency this winter.

It’s starting to feel like Eflin won’t pitch again this season after hitting the injured list last week just prior to the trade deadline with back discomfort. The vibes certainly aren’t that positive and there’s zero reason for Baltimore to rush him back with nothing at stake.

This is the same injury that sidelined Eflin from June 29th through July 23rd. It would not be a surprise to see this keep him on the IL for another three or four weeks, which means he would simply be an option in September if some team trades for him.

Rosenthal adds that Eflin is headed to the injured list with an undisclosed ailment, but one that is definitively not related to his arm. There’s a lot to unpack here, but it sounds like Eflin could still be dealing with a back injury that landed him on the IL just last month. The veteran is a free agent at the end of the season and could still wind up being shipped out ahead of Thursday night’s deadline to provide insurance for some team’s rotation in the final month or so of the season.

Eflin received nearly two touchdowns worth of run support from Baltimore’s offense, but couldn’t complete five frames to qualify for a win. He allowed eight hits, including homers to Nathan Lukes and Vladimir Guerrero Jr., finishing with three strikeouts and issuing one walk. He’s tentatively slated to take the ball on Sunday at Wrigley Field, but that will obviously change if he’s moved later this week at the trade deadline.

Eflin struck out five and walked one over five innings in his return from the injured list. All the damage came in the fourth, when Kyle Manzardo dropped a two-run single into shallow left-center following a one-out double by José Ramírez. The 30-year-old righty looked sharp overall in this one and is likely to make one more start — Tuesday against the Blue Jays — ahead of next week’s trade deadline, which could serve as an audition for contending clubs.

Eflin is up to make a start after missing almost a month with discomfort in his lower back. The right-hander has disappointed with a 5.95 ERA, but his previous success makes him worthy of roster consideration for those looking for help in pitching categories.

Eflin wrapped up a minor league rehab assignment over the weekend and will take the ball for his first start since June 28. The 31-year-old righty has struggled to a lackluster 5.95 ERA across 62 innings (12 starts) this season, but still figures to be one of the bigger arms on the move by the end of the month. He’s in line to make at least two starts before the trade deadline as he auditions for contenders.

The 31-year-old right-hander struck out five batters and allowed five unearned runs in the Florida Complex League. When and where he’ll slot into the O’s rotation remains a mystery, though it’s likely that it will happen at some point over the weekend against the Rockies — making him a viable streaming option in fantasy leagues where he may be hanging around on the waiver wire.

Eflin struck out two and walked one while throwing 38 of his 58 pitches for strikes. The 31-year-old may need one more rehab start before returning from the IL, but given the lack of production the Orioles are getting from his spot in the rotation, they may also decide to activate him on an abbreviated pitch count. Eflin started the season well but battled a lat injury in April and then this back injury in June. He has been a solid starting pitcher when healthy over the last five years and is probably worth a stash in deeper formats, given that the Orioles are playing better baseball lately.

Orioles interim manager Tony Mansolino told reporters Eflin will kick off his rehab assignment this weekend and continue throwing next week. There’s optimism he’ll be ready to return to Baltimore’s rotation in late July. The 31-year-old righty hit the injured list back in late June with lower back discomfort.

Eflin remains without an official return timetable after hitting the shelf earlier this week with lower back discomfort. It’s a positive sign he’s resumed throwing, but he’s likely going to need a couple weeks before he’s ready to rejoin Baltimore’s rotation mix.

Eflin heads to the injured list after exiting Saturday’s start against the Rays with lower back tightness. It’s his second trip to the shelf this season after missing one month back in April with a shoulder ailment. He’s been a disappointment from a fantasy perspective with a bloated 5.95 ERA across 62 innings. The positive news is that additional evaluation and testing didn’t turn up anything more serious since the official designation from the Orioles is merely discomfort. The 31-year-old righty should be ready to return in a couple weeks, if not sooner. It’ll be prospect Brandon Young coming up to take his spot in Baltimore’s injury-ravaged rotation.

Eflin will undergo further evaluation this weekend after exiting Saturday’s start against the Rays with lower back tightness. The 31-year-old showed up the ballpark reporting stiffness on Sunday morning and it sounds like a trip to the injured list could be inevitable. There should be a definitive update on his status at some point in the coming days. It would most likely be pitching prospect Brandon Young coming up to take his spot in the rotation if he winds up missing time.

Eflin allowed four runs on five hits in just one inning of work before giving way to Scott Blewett. The 31-year-old right-hander is in danger of missing his next scheduled start against Atlanta on Friday, but he’ll likely undergo testing to determine the severity of the injury.

Eflin surrendered a solo homer to Trent Grisham in the first inning, then was tagged for two more solo shots by J.C. Escarra and Ben Rice in the second. Eflin’s struggled continued into the third, with three more runs scoring on four hits and a sacrifice fly. The 31-year-old right-hander was chased after three innings. He’ll take a bloated 5.46 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, and a 42/11 K/BB ratio across 61 innings into a start against the Rays in Baltimore on Friday.

It’s not what you want to see. Eflin was shelled for a staggering 12 hits, including a pair of home runs, as he gave up at least one run in each of his five frames of work. He struck out two and also issued a pair of walks. The unexpected implosion halts a three-start run where he had completed at least seven six innings and allowed three earned runs or fewer. He’ll attempt to rebound on Saturday when he faces the Yankees in a challenging road tilt.

While Eflin’s strikeout numbers are rarely gaudy, he’s at his best when he’s mixing his deep pitch-mix and living around the edges of the plate like he did in this game. He threw each of his changeup, sinker, cutter, fastball, and curveball at least 12% of the time and allowed just two hard-hit balls before the Tigers’ slight seventh inning rally that chased Eflin from this game. Nevertheless, this was a great game for him. He’s lined up for a two-start week coming up with road matchups against the Yankees and Rays.

He also struck out seven while walking nobody and registering a 31 percent whiff rate and 34 percent CSW. It was a solid start for Eflin, who got plenty of whiffs on his curve and sweeper, and pounded the zone with his cutter. He’ll be in for a tough test against the Tigers next week, but Eflin could also be an attractive name on the trade market if the Orioles continue to fall out of the playoff picture.

The Orioles are staring at long playoff odds, so the team is likely looking towards moving players who are not under team control for assets that could help them in 2026 and beyond. Both Eflin and Sugano are free agents-to-be, so they would seem the most likely starters to be traded away. That could potentially open up a rotation spot for last year’s trade deadline acquisition, Trevor Rogers, who was struggling at Norfolk before throwing 6 1/3 innings of shutout ball against the Red Sox a few weeks ago.

The six strikeouts topped his previous season high by one, and it’s also the first time he’s completed seven innings. The opponent definitely deserves some credit for Eflin’s success today, as he didn’t seem to be doing anything much differently than usual. The win moves him to 4-2 with a 4.46 ERA, and he has another rather favorable outing coming up in Seattle next week.

Eflin looked solid in his return from the IL a week out, but he simply didn’t have it today with the Nats putting up seven runs before the second inning was over. To Eflin’s credit, he did rebound and limit the damage from there, but he also posted an 18 percent whiff rate and 22 percent CSW on the day. He’ll carry a 5.08 ERA into a tough matchup next week in Boston.

Eflin walked two and struck out five opposing hitters on the afternoon. The Angels had him on the ropes early in this one, as Taylor Ward smacked an RBI double and Logan O’Hoppe followed with an RBI single in the opening inning, but he settled in nicely after that and finished his day with four scoreless innings. The 31-year-old right-hander got eight whiffs on 83 pitches on the day, posting a CSW of 27 percent. He now sits at 3-1 on the season with a 3.13 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and a 13/3 K/BB ratio over 23 innings through his first four starts. He shouldn’t have any sort of pitch count limitations when he battles the Nationals his next time out at home on Saturday.

It was assumed that Eflin would be back this weekend, but now we have a concrete date. The 31-year-old may not be at full strength after throwing fewer than 60 pitches in his rehab start, but the Orioles feel confident enough to have the right-hander back on the bump for the series finale against the Angels.

Eflin got through Wednesday’s bullpen session without any issues and has been cleared to take the ball this weekend against the Angels. The 31-year-old righty has been out since early April recovering from a low-grade lat strain. He’s worthy of a roster spot in deeper mixed leagues, even if he doesn’t offer astronomical strikeout upside.

Orioles manager Brandon Hyde told reporters the plan is for Eflin to return this weekend to start against the Angels. The 31-year-old righty fired four scoreless innings on Sunday in a minor league rehab start for High-A Aberdeen and could potentially be cleared to rejoin Baltimore’s rotation following his next throwing session. He’s been out since early April recovering from a low-grad lat strain.
