The procedure, performed by Dr. Keith Meister, will sideline Eflin until at least the early stages of the 2027 season. The 32-year-old veteran suffered the injury during his season debut last week, and it marks the first reconstructive surgery of his career. His absence is a significant hit to Baltimore’s rotation depth and likely means that one of Dean Kremer, Cade Povich or Brandon Young will have to step into a more prominent role this season.

There is still no set timeline on Eflin’s return from right elbow discomfort, and he’s getting a second opinion this week. This move means the earliest he could return is at the beginning of June.

Eflin is flying to Texas to see Dr. Keith Meister, which would seem to indicate that he did not exactly love the first opinion medical professionals offered him. We would be surprised if Eflin wasn’t out for a majority of the year based on this update, even if he has avoided a UCL tear and instead has something (relatively) more minor.

The 31-year-old left last night’s game in the fourth inning. As of now, we have no further information on the extent of the injury, and the Orioles are awaiting imaging results. However, fantasy managers should expect a long absence, which is a bummer for a pitcher who seemed primed to have a bounce-back season. Albert Suarez was called up to take Eflin’s place in the rotation.

Not good. Eflin is presumably headed for an MRI to determine whether he’s dealing with any structural damage and appears ticketed for the injured list, even if this isn’t a worst-case scenario. The 31-year-old veteran hurler looked sharp in his season debut, recording seven strikeouts while limiting the Rangers to just one run on four hits over 3 2/3 innings. There should be a definitive update on his status at some point in the coming days. Dean Kremer would be the logical choice to fill Eflin’s spot in Baltimore’s rotation.

Not a great sign. It’s a bit unclear what transpired that caused Eflin to depart with two outs in the fourth inning after allowing one run on four hits. He finished with seven strikeouts and issued a pair of walks, throwing 74 pitches (44 strikes) in his season debut. The hope is that he isn’t dealing with a flare up of the back issues that plagued him last year. There should be an update from the club on his status shortly.

Eflin allowed just one baserunner in the contest, a two-out double to Jazz Chisholm Jr. in the fifth inning. He retired the first 14 hitters that he faced in order, then punched out Ryan McMahon after Chisholm’s double to put an exclamation point on his evening. Eflin generated 11 swings and misses on 70 pitches on the evening, posting a solid CSW of 31 percent. He has been about as good as possible through his two spring starts, hurling 7 1/3 scoreless innings with a 10/1 K/BB ratio.

Technically, it was a faulty tarpaulin that led to water flooding the field at Ed Smith Stadium as the contest was unable to continue due to field conditions following a rain delay. Eflin was off to a nice start with four strikeouts on 32 pitches (22 strikes) over two scoreless innings before a downpour ended his night. He’ll presumably get some work in on a side session to continue building up his pitch count. He’ll open the season at the back-end of Baltimore’s new-look rotation.

Eflin’s velocities today were up across the board from last year but especially so on his secondary pitches; his sweeper was up 1.5 mph from last year and his cutter was 1.8 mph better. That seems really promising in his first outing since back surgery. We weren’t looking at Eflin as a mixed-league guy this year, but if this holds up, he might help as an end-game pick,

He is “having a normal camp” per MASN’s Roch Kubatko. Eflin isn’t going to be high on draft boards, but he’s in a good enough situation in Baltimore to be a worthwhile AL-only league flier or a streamer in 12-team leagues if he makes it through Spring Training healthy.

If all goes well, Eflin could be part of the season-opening rotation, but it’s also possible he’ll start off on the injured list. Eflin re-signed with the Orioles on Sunday after becoming a free agent at season’s end. He’s guaranteed $10 million next season, with a chance to earn up to an additional $5 million if he proves healthy.

According to FanSided’s Robert Murray, Eflin gets a $3 million signing bonus, a $5 million salary and a $2 million buyout on a $25 million mutual option for 2027. The price of both the option and the buyout will increase by $1 million with 15 starts next year, an additional $1.5 million with 20 starts and then another $2.5 million with 25 starts. So, a healthy 2026 spent in the rotation would guarantee him $15 million in all. After two healthy and productive seasons in 2023 and ’24, Eflin had a 5.93 ERA and a 50/13 K/BB in 71 1/3 innings last season. The 31-year-old is expected to be ready in the spring following back surgery in August.

Eflin hopes to have a normal offseason after spending the next few months recovering, but that’s not assured. The free-agent-to-be is probably going to have to settle for a one-year deal in the offseason after posting a 5.93 ERA in 14 starts this year.

Eflin is slated for a lumbar microdiscectomy. Between that and the 5.93 ERA in 14 starts this season, he’s likely going to have to take a one-year deal in free agency this winter.

It’s starting to feel like Eflin won’t pitch again this season after hitting the injured list last week just prior to the trade deadline with back discomfort. The vibes certainly aren’t that positive and there’s zero reason for Baltimore to rush him back with nothing at stake.

This is the same injury that sidelined Eflin from June 29 through July 23. It would not be a surprise to see this keep him on the IL for another three or four weeks, which means he would only be an option in September if some team trades for him.

Rosenthal adds that Eflin is headed to the injured list with an undisclosed ailment, but one that is definitively not related to his arm. There’s a lot to unpack here, but it sounds like Eflin could still be dealing with a back injury that landed him on the IL just last month. The veteran is a free agent at the end of the season and could still wind up being shipped out ahead of Thursday night’s deadline to provide insurance for some team’s rotation in the final month or so of the season.

Eflin received nearly two touchdowns worth of run support from Baltimore’s offense, but couldn’t complete five frames to qualify for a win. He allowed eight hits, including homers to Nathan Lukes and Vladimir Guerrero Jr., finishing with three strikeouts and issuing one walk. He’s tentatively slated to take the ball on Sunday at Wrigley Field, but that will obviously change if he’s moved later this week at the trade deadline.

Eflin struck out five and walked one over five innings in his return from the injured list. All the damage came in the fourth, when Kyle Manzardo dropped a two-run single into shallow left-center following a one-out double by José Ramírez. The 30-year-old righty looked sharp overall in this one and is likely to make one more start — Tuesday against the Blue Jays — ahead of next week’s trade deadline, which could serve as an audition for contending clubs.

Eflin is up to make a start after missing almost a month with discomfort in his lower back. The right-hander has disappointed with a 5.95 ERA, but his previous success makes him worthy of roster consideration for those looking for help in pitching categories.

Eflin wrapped up a minor league rehab assignment over the weekend and will take the ball for his first start since June 28. The 31-year-old righty has struggled to a lackluster 5.95 ERA across 62 innings (12 starts) this season, but still figures to be one of the bigger arms on the move by the end of the month. He’s in line to make at least two starts before the trade deadline as he auditions for contenders.

The 31-year-old right-hander struck out five batters and allowed five unearned runs in the Florida Complex League. When and where he’ll slot into the O’s rotation remains a mystery, though it’s likely that it will happen at some point over the weekend against the Rockies — making him a viable streaming option in fantasy leagues where he may be hanging around on the waiver wire.

Eflin struck out two and walked one while throwing 38 of his 58 pitches for strikes. The 31-year-old may need one more rehab start before returning from the IL, but given the lack of production the Orioles are getting from his spot in the rotation, they may also decide to activate him on an abbreviated pitch count. Eflin started the season well but battled a lat injury in April and then this back injury in June. He has been a solid starting pitcher when healthy over the last five years and is probably worth a stash in deeper formats, given that the Orioles are playing better baseball lately.

Orioles interim manager Tony Mansolino told reporters Eflin will kick off his rehab assignment this weekend and continue throwing next week. There’s optimism he’ll be ready to return to Baltimore’s rotation in late July. The 31-year-old righty hit the injured list back in late June with lower back discomfort.

Eflin remains without an official return timetable after hitting the shelf earlier this week with lower back discomfort. It’s a positive sign he’s resumed throwing, but he’s likely going to need a couple weeks before he’s ready to rejoin Baltimore’s rotation mix.

Eflin heads to the injured list after exiting Saturday’s start against the Rays with lower back tightness. It’s his second trip to the shelf this season after missing one month back in April with a shoulder ailment. He’s been a disappointment from a fantasy perspective with a bloated 5.95 ERA across 62 innings. The positive news is that additional evaluation and testing didn’t turn up anything more serious since the official designation from the Orioles is merely discomfort. The 31-year-old righty should be ready to return in a couple weeks, if not sooner. It’ll be prospect Brandon Young coming up to take his spot in Baltimore’s injury-ravaged rotation.

Eflin will undergo further evaluation this weekend after exiting Saturday’s start against the Rays with lower back tightness. The 31-year-old showed up the ballpark reporting stiffness on Sunday morning and it sounds like a trip to the injured list could be inevitable. There should be a definitive update on his status at some point in the coming days. It would most likely be pitching prospect Brandon Young coming up to take his spot in the rotation if he winds up missing time.

Eflin allowed four runs on five hits in just one inning of work before giving way to Scott Blewett. The 31-year-old right-hander is in danger of missing his next scheduled start against Atlanta on Friday, but he’ll likely undergo testing to determine the severity of the injury.
